Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master

Chapter 320 - 290: Joining the Battle

Chapter 320: Chapter 290: Joining the Battle

Wang Zonghan’s proposal gained the approval of most of the students. Li Qian thought something wasn’t quite right, but he didn’t say a word.

The majority ruled, so he had no choice but to go along with the team. Going against the group’s decision at a time like this wouldn’t be a good idea.

Once the decision was made, the group acted immediately and without hesitation. Using the directions from their temporary communication watches, they quickly learned where the third group had run into trouble.

After quickly gathering their things, they set off, heading in a near-straight line toward the location where the third group had met with trouble.

The four student groups had entered the Moon Shadow Forest for their trial. Although they had split off in four different directions, the distance between each group wasn’t very far.

As students who had made it into one of the Eight Great academies, they were all in good shape. At a minimum, each of them had experienced the feedback from a contract at least once.

So they ran at a good pace. After sprinting for about forty-five minutes, the group of six finally neared the place where the third group had run into trouble.

Just as they drew near, but before they had fully arrived, the sounds of a commotion reached their ears.

"Over there. Signs of a fight," Wang Zonghan said, pointing in that direction.

"Let’s approach carefully," Ding Ganmao suggested, frowning as he looked toward the source of the battle.

The group exchanged a brief look and nodded in unison. Having reached an agreement, they immediately set out.

They slowed down considerably, advancing with stealth. Just then, a familiar voice suddenly crackled from their temporary communication watches.

"Since you’re here, stop dawdling and get over here to help!"

It was Instructor Zhou’s voice. Hearing him, the six students didn’t hesitate for a second, their slowed pace instantly turning back into a sprint.

Soon, the six of them arrived at the scene. The battle there was incredibly intense, even dangerous.

A dense horde of at least a hundred cat-like Pet Beasts had surrounded a small group of people.

’One-tailed Cats, Two-tailed Cats, and Three-tailed Cats... No, that’s a Mutated Three-tailed Cat...’ Li Qian identified the cat-like Pet Beasts with a single glance.

A few of them were noticeably larger, with more savage features, different from ordinary Three-tailed Cats.

The moment he saw the six of them, Instructor Zhou immediately explained the situation. "The four of us will handle these Three-tailed Cats and Mutated Three-tailed Cats. We’re leaving the rest of the Two-tailed and One-tailed Cats to you."

Hearing this, Li Qian didn’t hesitate, immediately charging into the fray. With his group of six joining the fight, the pressure on Yao Yan and Gu Feifei’s group was instantly reduced.

"You should fall back for now," Li Qian said, taking over for one of the male students.

He didn’t know the student’s name; it was impossible for him to remember all twenty-five names in their unit.

He told him to fall back because he could see the student was already wounded, covered in bloody scratches. On top of that, his Pet Beast didn’t look to be in good shape, either.

And he wasn’t the only one in that state; almost everyone in their small group was injured. Fortunately, none of the wounds looked too serious.

With the addition of Li Qian’s six-person team, a Vigorous Army, the situation immediately stabilized. At the very least, Instructor Zhou and the others no longer needed to periodically turn back to provide aid.

"Qizai, Xiaoliu, be patient. Don’t rush in," Li Qian instructed after summoning his two Pet Beasts.

Li Qian always abided by one principle: ’The larger the battle or operation, the more careful and cautious one must be.’

The swarm of One-tailed Cats here was clearly not normal. Forget rookies like them; a group of this size could probably take down even old veterans like Senior Brother Du if they ran into it alone.

Logically, a swarm like this shouldn’t appear in a starter zone like the Moon Shadow Forest.

Because of this, and because the enemy situation was unclear, Li Qian chose a relatively conservative strategy.

He saw that Wang Zonghan, Ding Ganmao, and Ami Liya were all fighting with everything they had, so he didn’t offer any words of caution.

’Everything so far is just my own speculation. It’s not enough to convince them.’

He could only wait and see how things developed.

And so, the battle raged on with great intensity.

With the arrival of Li Qian and his group, the situation improved instantly.

Compared to the Two-tailed Cats, which only had a Racial Potential of Tier Three Elite, Li Qian’s two Pet Beasts—the Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon and the Frostfire Salamander—delivered an utterly overwhelming assault.

As for the One-tailed Cats, whose Racial Potential was a mere Tier Nine, the mismatch was even more pronounced.

In the chaos of the melee, Li Qian couldn’t afford to get distracted.

While there were plenty of One-tailed Cats, capturing one alive would be difficult. For now, he didn’t have the luxury of thinking about his mission objectives.

As he fought, Li Qian also observed the two separate battlefronts.

His side had already gained a slight advantage. Meanwhile, Instructor Zhou and the three seniors were also slowly gaining the upper hand in their fight.

The pack of fifteen or sixteen Three-tailed Cats and three Mutated Three-tailed Cats was certainly on a different level from their own opponents, but they held no advantage against the Pet Beasts of Instructor Zhou and the three seniors.

Furthermore, since the Three-tailed Cats had poor coordination and little teamwork, they were no match for the four humans and their thirteen Pet Beasts in an actual fight.

"Watch out!"

The battle was still raging when Instructor Zhou suddenly noticed three Three-tailed Cats break away and charge toward the fray on Li Qian’s side.

It happened so suddenly that the four of them couldn’t stop the cats in time—or at least, not immediately.

The best they could do was shout a warning.

Unlike the One- and Two-tailed varieties, a Three-tailed Cat’s Racial Potential reached the Commander Level. Even at just Commander Fourth Rank, they were still not something the current freshmen could hope to withstand.

At least, that was what Instructor Zhou and the three seniors believed.

So upon seeing this, Instructor Zhou and the three seniors couldn’t help the anxious expressions that appeared on their faces.

Seeing the three pouncing Three-tailed Cats, Wang Zonghan was the first to charge forward.

His two Pet Beasts, the Golden Armor Terracotta Warriors and the Iron Armor Warrior, were both humanoid. Wielding sharp swords, their attack power was quite astonishing.

Although they had only just reached the Elite level, the two Pet Beasts working together actually managed to block one of the Three-tailed Cats for a short time.

Ding Ganmao followed his example, commanding his own two Pet Beasts to intercept another Three-tailed Cat.

However, he was clearly faring worse than Wang Zonghan. Although his pets could barely hold on, their situation was quite precarious.

Seeing this, Li Qian instantly knew what he had to do.

He directly commanded Qizai and Xiaoliu to engage the third and final Three-tailed Cat.

Both the Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon and the Frostfire Salamander were Powerful Pet Beasts with Dominator Level Potential. The Frostfire Salamander, in particular, had reached Tier Nine Dominator and possessed astonishing combat power.

Although on the surface, their power was less than that of the Commander Level Three-tailed Cat, their true combat strength was by no means inferior.

By joining forces, they instantly suppressed the Three-tailed Cat.
