Chapter 978: Henry Fornum.
"Damn it all."
Henry cursed as he saw Olivia activate her spell, everyone on top of the building felt the mana begin to vibrate, and although it was nothing compared to the black barrier in the distance, it was still an incredibly formidable spell none of them besides Henry could match.
"Surrounded by monsters, on all sides..."
He joked as he heaved a large sigh.
"Damn it! First my brother, then Elijah, the cold freak, Sabrina, and even her? I really am lagging..."
He never expected Olivia to be capable of such a powerful spell, one capable of summoning a giant worm that was tearing the automatons to shreds... He always thought she was... weak, compared to the rest of the Olsfer family, but then again, he didn’t blame her.
It was difficult to live up to the legacy of the sage, he always thought she was the same as him, chasing to bring honor to a name they had but never could truly make their own. Henry chased in the shadow of his brother, Ezra Fornum, while Olivia would chase after her grandfather, Oliver Olsfer.
He let out a sigh as he watched her kill the numerous automatons with ease, although her spirits were doing most of the work, especially the scary worm. He turned to the behemoth members and said.
"What are all of you dawdling for? Stick to the plan and begin the mission. Can’t fall behind a single person now, can we? She can’t keep up that worm for long, so until it goes away, avoid her area and provide support when she falters. I’ll provide support from here."
They nodded and jumped down the building as well, steering away from Olivia until her massive spell ran out of juice. Henry looked at his hawk, resting upon his shoulders and rubbed its feathers.
"Don’t worry buddy, you’ll be as big as the other one, even bigger!"
He mumbled under his breath...
"...as soon as I figure out how, that is."
His spirit screeched and flapped his wings, to which Henry nodded.
"Good idea, I should ask her how she did it. Though I probably will have to spend a lot of money for it. That old geezer should agree to the request..."
He let out another sigh as he pulled out his bow from his own spatial storage. Behemoth had a hard time getting spatial rings from Twilight, courtesy of their rivalry, and had to resort to the inferior rings Gary made or ones procured from dungeons. Henry’s was of the latter and capable of storing his bow along with specially made arrows for a plethora of situations.
Though he had no need for them now, at the very least. Henry took a deep breath as an arrow of wind materialized in his hand, a faint shimmer of lightning at the tip. Henry nocked the arrow and aimed at the first automaton that he saw. After activating a few skills, he released them.
The arrow cut through the air and landed right in the chest of the automaton, and the lightning at the tip exploded. However, the automaton was still alive, albeit paralyzed. A second later, another arrow, the same as before arrived to finish the job.
Henry continued his barrage, cutting down automaton after automaton with his rain of arrows, his speed only slower to Olivia’s. However, he was sure he would gain the upper hand when that massive worm ran out of power.
He had to get stronger, a lot stronger, not because he was pressured to see Alan’s growth, but because he couldn’t betray the expectations of the family. He had to rise in strength, so he could lessen the burden on his brother, and also to be capable enough to provide reliable support to Elijah.
Furthermore, he didn’t care for Alan and his friends and how much they advanced. His competitive spirit was instead raised by Elijah, his best friend, and he had to catch up. He’d gone on so many missions where Henry couldn’t accompany him due to the difference in power. The advantages of species be damned, he didn’t care if he was competing with a dragon or a god beast, he was going to catch up.
Soon enough, the massive worm that devastated the automatons disappeared as the spell ran out of mana. Olivia retreated as the hawk high in the skies rained down magic to support her.
Henry smirked as he collected his mana and aimed high at the sky. Sparks of lightning coiled around his body as the clouds up above began to shift. A massive arrow of lightning appeared on his bow, and he soon let it fly.
A storm of wind enveloped the arrow of lightning as it quickly disappeared above the clouds, only to explode. The dark clouds blocked most of the light, but some got through, but that was only the prelude.
Everyone looked up, and Henry finished casting.
"Thunderfall of arrows."
His skill had been activated, and he allowed himself a moment of rest as hundreds of lightning arrows pierced through the clouds and homed in on the automaton forces. Individually, they were fragile, but the skill was all about accumulating damage instead.
Hundreds and hundreds of arrows fell, slowly decimating the automatons. His forces, along with Olivia and her spirits were safe, and soon marched towards the automatons barely alive, or those that had managed to protect themselves from the rain, ready to finish the job.
Henry watched it all unfold, as a sudden chill began to permeate the surroundings. He turned his head to see the black barrier dispelled, finding nothing beyond it. Nevertheless, the amount of mana was unquestionably his. Only he could have that much. Henry grit his teeth and cursed once more, as another large arrow of lightning materialized in his hands.
He aimed at the skies once more, and cast.
[Skill: Thunderfall of arrows has been used.]
And he cast again.
[Skill: Thunderfall of arrows has been used.]
And again.
[Skill: Thunderfall of arrows has been used.]
Until he either ran out of mana or the damn robotic wannabes were all dead.
