Chapter 57: Chapter 57: I’ll Kill You
Here we go again!
Gao Yuan discovered that Lin Wanyu had him completely figured out. She knew exactly what he liked and pulled stunts like this all the time.
"Qingqing, my life is so hard!"
Seeing that Lin Wanyu was about to continue her act, Gao Yuan decided he needed to teach this little vixen a lesson.
"They really aren’t washed. The strawberry seller wrote that they were farmer-grown."
Lin Wanyu put her hands on her hips, a smug look on her face. "Homegrown is the best. No chemical fertilizers."
After saying that, she even picked up another one and popped it in her mouth.
Gao Yuan looked at her and nodded seriously, as if agreeing with her. "You’re right, no chemical fertilizers. Just a little manure."
"..."
The half-eaten strawberry still in her mouth, Lin Wanyu froze. She spat it into the trash can in one go, her lips pressed tightly together, her face contorting as she looked at the two of them, on the verge of tears.
It wasn’t just Lin Wanyu who was disgusted. Even Li Mengqing, who had just been reaching for a strawberry, quickly retracted her delicate hand.
To make sure the lesson really stuck and to increase the damage, Gao Yuan added calmly,
"But don’t worry, the seller said the manure is from the farmer’s own stock."
"..."
After hearing Gao Yuan’s words, Lin Wanyu, still on the verge of tears, ran into the kitchen and started furiously rinsing her mouth.
Li Mengqing watched Gao Yuan laughing gloatingly. She picked up the strawberry container and noticed a label on it that said, "Pre-washed."
Lin Wanyu came out after rinsing her mouth, plopped down huffily at the dining table, and glared at Gao Yuan.
Li Mengqing then slid the strawberry container in front of her, pointing to the "Pre-washed" label.
Seeing this, Gao Yuan sensed trouble and quickly bolted for the living room.
Sure enough, the next moment, Lin Wanyu’s elegant eyebrows shot up in anger. Her eyes flashing with furious sparks, she chased after him. "I’ll kill you!"
The natural result was Gao Yuan being pinned to the sofa and getting a good beating from Lin Wanyu.
In the end, it was only because the pot in the kitchen was steaming and her hands were tired from hitting him that Lin Wanyu let him go.
After all that roughhousing, Gao Yuan’s stewed noodles were ready.
Lin Wanyu and Li Mengqing rarely ate noodle dishes, mainly because they were worried about gaining weight.
But the stewed noodles Gao Yuan made for lunch won them both over. The green beans, bean sprouts, and strips of lean pork stir-fried together were incredibly fragrant. The noodles, steamed once, were thoroughly soaked in the savory broth from the vegetables, then steamed again, making them chewy yet not dry or hard.
While they were eating, Gao Yuan took advantage of the fact that both women were on their periods and defiantly ate several cloves of raw garlic.
Eating stewed noodles without garlic is a soulless experience.
The consequence was that after the meal, neither of them wanted to be near him.
He was happy for the peace and quiet. This month’s 50 minutes were long gone, and after the ’torment’ from Meiting and Xiaoyan, he needed to rest and recuperate for a while anyway.
He opened his computer. Today was the deadline for the designer to submit the first draft.
Gao Yuan placed great importance on the packaging design for the face masks.
Everyone loves to pursue beautiful things, especially women. So, if the mask’s design wasn’t up to par, the impact on sales would be huge.
And Gao Yuan had positioned the GY brand to have a simple, high-end, luxury style.
This required minimal design elements while still highlighting the brand’s character.
He wanted to avoid absurd designs, like that "colorful black" or "dazzling white" nonsense.
Gao Yuan opened the folder the designer had sent.
Three color schemes greeted him: white, black, and dark green.
’The designer had actually taken his advice to reference Helena Rubinstein and La Mer. He just copied their color schemes directly, isn’t that a bit lazy?!’
’Do you think you’re the designer Xiaomi spent millions on?!’
He opened each design file and looked them over three or four times.
After looking them over repeatedly, he realized the designs actually had a certain something to them.
First, they certainly achieved simplicity. The three backgrounds each featured only the shape of an essential oil drop, accompanied by the GY logo, with Chinese and English text below.
As for a sense of luxury... there was some, but it wasn’t particularly strong.
Gao Yuan called Lin Wanyu and Li Mengqing over to take a look at the designs.
Lin Wanyu thought the design was quite nice and highly recognizable.
Li Mengqing, however, didn’t offer her opinion immediately. Her brows furrowed slightly as she stared thoughtfully at the images on the computer.
After a long moment, she said hesitantly, "Is it an issue with the material in the design? I feel like the glossy finish doesn’t seem high-end enough."
Following her line of thought, Gao Yuan imagined it.
He realized she was right. A glossy finish lacked texture and failed to properly accentuate the brand’s character.
He immediately sent his feedback to the designer, asking for another revised version.
Just then, Lin Wanyu pointed at the designs on the screen. "Brother, are you going to produce all three types of masks at once?"
"How could I? I only have 300,000 in capital."
"If we produce three masks with different functions at the same time, the initial pressure would be too great, and it would be detrimental to our long-term development."
Seeing them both looking at him in confusion, Gao Yuan explained his strategy.
There are three secret formulas for the masks in total: hydrating, whitening, and anti-aging.
In terms of design, white corresponds to the whitening function, recommended for daytime use.
Black corresponds to the hydrating function, recommended for nighttime use.
Green corresponds to the anti-aging function, recommended for daily use.
Initially, the masks he plans to produce will focus on hydration and whitening.
Masks with these two functions are the most common on the market, and they address the needs of most people.
According to Gao Yuan’s plan, the standard series masks, though produced with the system’s secret formula, won’t have the system’s official mark. Their effects will be considerably weaker, but still better than those of the major skincare brands. The price would be set at 19.9 yuan per mask.
The premium series masks, on the other hand, will blow the major brands out of the water. They’ll be priced directly at 299 yuan per mask, targeting the wallets of the wealthy.
Just like how Mercedes-Benz never rips off the poor, his GY skincare line won’t rip off the poor either.
With the foundation of word-of-mouth reputation built by the standard series, the premium series would take off immediately upon launch, without needing much marketing or promotion.
The real money-maker would be the premium series.
Relying on 19.9 yuan a pop, when would he ever be able to afford a Rolls-Royce?
"Brother, you’re so cunning!"
After hearing Gao Yuan’s explanation, both of them immediately understood his strategy.
Gao Yuan didn’t mind Lin Wanyu’s comment. ’If you’re not in business to make money, are you just bored?’
Besides, it’s better that he earns the money rather than letting all those foreign skincare brands take it.
Who knows, with the system’s support, he might even be able to build a brand that becomes the "pride of domestic products."
At the very least, the money he earns would be spent within the country. If some place suffers a disaster or hardship, how could he not lend a hand?
At the very least, building a few Hope Primary Schools every year is better than letting those foreign brands take the profit, right?
Since he was young, Gao Yuan was raised with the mindset of: "When poor, improve oneself and don’t be a burden to the country; when rich, benefit the world and lead a portion of the people to common prosperity."
How much money could he possibly spend by himself?
Even if you set him up with luxury cars, a mansion, and a few more women, how much would that really cost?
Leaving aside the money from his business, just a few more system upgrades and he’d have more cash back than he could ever spend.
Ah, people! When they’re broke, they always crave money. They even dream of buying a luxury car to pick up girls, show off, and tell the world they’ve made it.
Buying a mansion, using luxury goods—these are all ways of expressing one’s uniqueness and sense of superiority.
Gao Yuan wasn’t one to go against the grain; he was an ordinary person too.
But there has to be a limit, right?
Gao Yuan longed for success, for a life where he could spend money like water and live freely.
But the nine years of compulsory education were ingrained in his very bones, and his adult education had firmly established his worldview.
Gao Yuan couldn’t say for sure that he wouldn’t lose himself at some stage, but he could say with certainty that he would definitely be a person useful to society.
This was just Gao Yuan’s ideal, or perhaps, his dream.
And the first step to realizing that dream was the face masks.
’Earning a little conscionable money isn’t too much to ask, is it?’
DING DONG.
DING DONG.
As the three of them were discussing making money, both Gao Yuan’s and Lin Wanyu’s phones chimed at the same time.
