They returned to the Monster Investigation Bureau, looking at a place that might cease to exist in a few years.
Because Huang Bo Lin was dead, and the secret bases he’d established on various planets were waiting to be dismantled.
Once these secret bases were completely dismantled, the Monster Investigation Bureau would vanish for good.
“I can’t believe our time working together is about to end,” Gu Kaiwen lamented.
“And even the Bureau itself is ending,” Feng He said.
“I don’t think the Monster Investigation Bureau will be shut down,” Lin Jingjing said, her gaze fixed on Lu Shaoyu in the distance, who was waiting for them with a thick stack of files.
“Why not?” Feng He asked, confused.
“We may be leaving, but they’re still here, aren’t they?” Lin Jingjing said, gesturing toward them.
As long as people remained, the Monster Investigation Bureau wouldn’t disappear.
When Lu Shaoyu saw the five of them, his worried expression broke into a huge smile. “Director Lin, you’re back!”
“Quick, this paperwork is waiting for you to handle.”
The moment he saw all the paperwork, Shi Feng immediately came up with an excuse. “Ah, I just remembered! My Mecha still has a lot of details that need tuning. You guys get started, I’ll be right back.”
Seeing this, Feng He immediately chimed in, “And I still have to interrogate Luo Zhuo. You guys have fun.”
Gu Kaiwen looked left and right, frantic.
Finally, inspiration struck. “I heard they’re recruiting new soldiers. I’ll go take a look.”
Then he left without a backward glance.
Watching the three of them run off, Lin Jingjing and Mo Xuan heaved a long sigh.
In the end, they were the ones left to bear it all.
‘This is so unfair!’
‘I have to drag them all back here to go through this paperwork with us.’
Mo Xuan opened his mouth, about to say something, when Lin Jingjing laid a hand on his shoulder. She looked at him with a wide grin. “You don’t have anything to do right now, do you?”
Looking at Sister Lin’s expression, Mo Xuan tearfully nodded. “Yes.”
In the end, the two of them returned to the office and dealt with all the files, one by one.
Feng He arrived at the lab and began researching something new with Xiang Heng. Meanwhile, Luo Zhuo, his hands and feet bound, was locked in a room with even higher security than Kulundi’s.
He probably never imagined that he, too, would one day end up as someone’s lab rat.
Luo Zhuo sat in the room with four transparent walls, watching the two people standing before him.
The corners of his mouth lifted slightly. “Want to make a deal?”
Hearing Luo Zhuo’s words, they both stopped what they were doing and looked up at him in unison.
“What kind of deal?” Feng He deactivated her Star Ring, her gaze fixed intently on him.
“I’ll tell you what I know, and you take these things off my hands and feet, how about it?” Luo Zhuo said with a smile. “They’re getting in the way.”
Xiang Heng’s immediate reaction was to refuse. “No.”
“Why not?” Luo Zhuo stood and walked slowly to the glass, his eyes fixed on him.
His alluring eyes stared straight at Xiang Heng, as if trying to hook the man’s very soul.
Xiang Heng found himself getting lost in those eyes. Luo Zhuo spoke softly, “Undo my cuffs.”
“I’ll tell you everything I know.”
Just as Xiang Heng was about to agree, Feng He slapped him on the shoulder.
“Snap out of it, buddy,” Feng He reminded him calmly.
The slap from Feng He snapped Xiang Heng back to his senses.
Once clear-headed again, his brow furrowed. He couldn’t believe the man in front of him had managed to control him with just a look.
‘This man really is dangerous!’
“Why weren’t you charmed?” Luo Zhuo asked, leaning against the glass. He looked at her, his eyes full of confusion.
No one who looked into his eyes had ever been able to resist his Charm Technique.
For this young woman to look and remain unaffected was a rare thing indeed.
“You’re quite impressive, little miss,” Luo Zhuo said with a smile. “To think you could resist my Temptation Technique.”
Hearing this, Feng He rolled her eyes.
“You really are a dangerous man.”
‘I need to raise his threat level to Grade 3S,’ Feng He thought.
“I’m not dangerous in the slightest,” Luo Zhuo said with a laugh.
Feng He ignored him completely, opening her Star Ring to send a message to Lin Jingjing.
After explaining the situation to Lin Jingjing, Feng He deactivated her Star Ring.
“Mr. Xiang, the Prison Director will be here soon. Please receive him. Also, tint this glass black so he can’t see us from the inside,” Feng He instructed.
Xiang Heng immediately complied. “Yes!”
“Now, little miss, don’t be like that.” Luo Zhuo hadn’t expected this. Not only did he fail to get his cuffs off, but now even the transparent glass was turning black.
‘This is really hard to swallow.’
“You’re about to be classified as a Grade 3S criminal,” Feng He said coldly.
Xiang Heng had already adjusted the glass just as Feng He wanted. The lights inside his cell remained on, but the surrounding glass walls were now opaque. Luo Zhuo couldn’t see a soul.
Heh…
Luo Zhuo covered his face. He hadn’t expected this outcome.
Once everything was set, Xiang Heng asked, his tone full of confusion, “You looked into his eyes too. Why weren’t you affected?”
“Because I can snap out of it quickly,” Feng He answered.
She had started to fall under his spell, but she’d snapped out of it almost immediately.
It was safe to say his Temptation Technique didn’t have much of an effect on her, but it was a different story for Xiang Heng.
He had almost listened to Luo Zhuo and opened the cell.
Xiang Heng nodded, lost in thought.
The Prison Director arrived shortly after. They took Luo Zhuo for an examination, after which they decided to inject him with a drug that had been strictly banned from public use: Spiritual Power Suppression Serum.
Once injected, the serum would render Luo Zhuo’s spiritual power completely useless.
If he tried to use it by force, his head would be wracked with excruciating pain.
Pain that would ultimately lead to death.
When Luo Zhuo learned he was to be injected with this drug, his eyes went wide.
“Aren’t you supposed to give captives preferential treatment?” Luo Zhuo demanded.
Lin Jingjing, standing to the side, played a video. “We don’t give preferential treatment to monsters.”
The video showed him conducting research on the bodies of ordinary people. As he looked down at the person on the operating table, his expression was exactly like someone observing a lab rat.
It was particularly hard to watch.
“Heh,” Luo Zhuo laughed awkwardly. ‘So this is what it’s like to be the lab rat.’
“Spare me?” Luo Zhuo said.
Hearing this, Lin Jingjing froze for a second before bursting into hysterical laughter.
Her laughter, thick with mockery, echoed throughout the room.
Luo Zhuo shut his mouth. ‘The way this woman is laughing… she’s not actually going to kill me, is she?’
When she finally stopped laughing, Lin Jingjing glared at him fiercely. “We spare you? Then what about the people who died at your hands?”
“Did you spare them?”
