Sorry, Our Captain Is a True All-Rounder

Chapter 219 - 2019. Re-customization

On this particular Monday, Lin Jingjing and her comrades, the great heroes of the war, were all summoned to the Cabinet Building.

The conference hall was filled with people.

Seeing the grand assembly, the team had a pretty good idea of what was about to happen. They sat in their designated seats, with Captain Li beside them.

Captain Li was exceptionally well-groomed today, looking sharp in his attire—a far cry from his usually disheveled appearance back at the First Corps.

He had a smile on his face, which made him look quite handsome.

“You seem happy, Captain Li,” Shi Feng said with a chuckle, sitting beside him. “Started dating someone recently?”

Captain Li was in a good mood, so he couldn’t be bothered to argue. “No.”

“But you’re smiling so happily, I thought you were about to get married,” Gu Kaiwen chimed in.

The moment the words left his mouth, a hand came down—SMACK!—right on top of Gu Kaiwen’s head.

“Captain Li, you’re playing favorites! You didn’t hit him, only me!” Gu Kaiwen whined, rubbing his head.

Shi Feng gloated from the side, “Can’t be helped. The Captain spoils me.”

Who knew that as soon as he said that, Captain Li would raise his hand and smack him on the head too.

“Shut it,” Captain Li barked. “If I don’t chew you out for a day, you start itching for trouble, is that it?”

“You little rascals, don’t think that just because you’re powerful now, with high ranks, that I wouldn’t dare to scold you,” Captain Li said, pointing at them.

The team just smiled without a word while Captain Li continued his tirade.

His scolding gradually turned into earnest advice.

“You’re the soldiers I trained. From now on, you’re only allowed to bring me honor, not shame. Got it?”

They all nodded and replied in unison, “Got it.”

Soon, the assembly began. Yun Yiyou rattled off a long speech, his gaze finally landing on Lin Jingjing at the end.

“Director Lin, please come to the stage.”

Lin Jingjing rose and walked to the stage. Standing at the podium, she cleared her throat and began to speak.

She started with a few pleasantries before getting straight to her main point.

“I implore the King to establish new laws.”

“Laws that will protect ordinary people, those without power, and at the same time, create a dedicated legal framework for those of us who possess spiritual power.”

“The majority of the Empire’s population consists of ordinary people without spiritual power. We must ensure their rights are not infringed upon.”

The complexions of those seated below changed. They never expected that after finally getting a seat at the table, she would proceed to flip the whole thing over.

Someone immediately stood up. “I disagree!”

When one person stands, countless others will follow.

The words “I disagree” echoed through the hall again and again. Lin Jingjing watched them, knowing she had just cut into their slice of the pie.

Lin Jingjing understood that such things could happen at any time. But if they didn’t establish new laws and regulations now, another Huang Bo Lin could emerge in the future.

Huang Bo Lin’s evil deeds were beyond question; what they had to do now was prevent such atrocities from ever happening again.

“The interests of the people cannot be negated simply because you say you disagree,” Lin Jingjing continued.

“They are an indispensable part of the Empire. They are the ones who keep the Empire running.”

“I, Lin Jingjing, swear here and now that I will defend their interests and protect them from any harm!”

Her face was a mask of tenacity. Her voice resounded with power and conviction as she spoke. The lights shone down on her, making her appear exceptionally confident and trustworthy.

The four seated in the audience also rose to their feet. They raised their arms and shouted, “We will defend their interests!”

Lin Jingjing looked at them, the corners of her lips turning up slightly.

When they had first arrived, they had sworn to accomplish something world-shaking.

Now, they had succeeded.

Even if, in the eyes of others, they hadn’t accomplished anything at all.

Captain Li watched the group, a slight smile on his lips, his eyes filled with pride.

‘They’re so young, yet they have such a strong moral compass.’

In this Empire, no one cared about the life or death of the common people.

But this group did.

And because they cared, others would follow their lead and start to care too.

Over time, the Empire would slowly become a better place.

The number of people who agreed gradually drew even with those who disagreed. The faces of those shouting their dissent turned exceptionally grim.

They hadn’t expected so many to agree—the supporters already outnumbered them.

At this moment, Yun Yiyou spoke up. “Director Lin, I will give your proposal serious consideration.”

As soon as he said this, the faces of the dissenters grew even uglier.

They couldn’t believe even the King had agreed. By shouting their opposition, weren’t they openly defying him?

In the future…

They didn’t dare to think about it. They would surely be dealt with later on.

With that matter concluded for the time being, the award ceremony began.

The five of them were promoted again. They had been Senior Colonels before, and now they were Lieutenant Generals.

Their promotions were extraordinarily fast, and many people were green with envy.

But they had earned every bit of it.

There was nothing to be done, no matter how envious others were.

It was what they deserved.

“Do you have any other requests?” Yun Yiyou asked.

Standing in the center, Lin Jingjing glanced at her comrades before speaking. “I want Blue Star.”

“I want to become the Star Director of Blue Star.”

‘The secret base where Huang Bo Lin was stationed?’

‘It’s just a small planet. If she asks for it, I might as well give it to her.’

‘Besides, that planet is of little use to the Empire right now.’

“You may.”

Upon hearing those two words, all five of them broke into wide smiles.

The administrative rights to Blue Star were theirs.

After the meeting ended, the whole team felt much more relaxed.

Lin Jingjing reached up and touched her hair. It had gotten longer, but there was also less of it.

“AHHH, MY HAIR!” Lin Jingjing shrieked, feeling her hair. “I can’t believe I lost so much!”

Her cry drew the others’ attention. They looked at her hair, which now fell past her shoulders.

‘Who would’ve thought we’d one day see Sister Lin with long hair.’

Lin Jingjing declared, “It’s finally over! I’m going to go live it up!”

“Let’s live it up!” Shi Feng echoed.

“Where are we going to live it up?” Gu Kaiwen asked.

“Where else but—” The group exchanged a look, then shouted in unison, “Karaoke!”

Singing was their way of letting loose.

They had always loved going to karaoke from time to time, even though they were all terrible singers.

Not only were they terrible, but they also sang with blissful self-absorption.

Each one convinced they were the best singer in the world.

However, it was still broad daylight, and they still had work to do.

All that paperwork hadn’t been finished yet.

They couldn’t just leave Lu Shaoyu to handle it all by himself, could they?

They’d go back, take care of business, and then head to karaoke.

On the way back, the group chatted and laughed.

“Do you guys even know the songs here?”

“Don’t go messing up the lyrics.”

“I listen to music every day. Of course I can sing them.”

“Mo Xuan, don’t you dare shout so loud. Your singing is awful.”

Mo Xuan retorted, “Bullshit! I’m the best singer here.”
