Interstellar Era: Starting As a Cleaner

Chapter 77: Jinx Physique

Chapter 77: Chapter 77: Jinx Physique

Yang Bo walked along the relatively wide maintenance corridor. Originally, there were automatic devices like elevators here, but unfortunately, the main system had stopped—likely shut down by someone. On both sides of the corridor were tall metal skeletons, upon which rested various cabins. The cabin walls were made of multi-layered composite materials and metal. They boasted high strength, good toughness, and excellent thermal insulation. Various ventilation equipment and wiring all ran through this maintenance corridor.

"Tsk, tsk, look at these radiation protection measures," Yang Bo muttered. Anti-radiation materials, a type of sponge-like filler, could be seen lining both sides of the corridor.

Transport ships and warships all had several Control Systems: wireless, wired, and even the most primitive hydraulic manual Control System.

In the beginning, humanity had actually perfected wireless Control Systems. Later, however, they discovered that cosmic storms, high-energy particle rays, and the like were far too powerful. In affected areas, using wireless control was completely useless. Then, they reverted to fiber-optic controls, only to find that even these suffered interference in certain regions of space. Therefore, they ultimately installed the oldest hydraulic manual systems in critical locations.

In ninety-nine percent of situations, fiber-optic controls worked flawlessly. The entire transport ship relied on the fiber-optic system to transmit information, as did the signal transmission system. But now, the signal transmission system had been severed. As a result, the various cabins lost contact with each other. Due to the incredibly strong shielding measures, not even a mecha’s radar could detect anything beyond its immediate vicinity.

More crucially, the Silver Moon Pirates hadn’t even equipped their mechas with biometric radars. After all, they were out here to rob; wasn’t it better to replace the biometric radar modules with something else? This resulted in the various squads of the Silver Moon Pirates operating independently. There was simply no way for them to link up via wireless signals. Otherwise, their boss wouldn’t have had to send a mecha outside the transport ship to contact their warship, since the communication system had already been damaged.

Yang Bo didn’t know this yet. After all, he used to be a regular resident and had limited access to such information.

Yang Bo arrived at a maintenance hub. It stocked all sorts of tools and various robots, though unfortunately, the robots were no longer functional. He took off his clothes, hid them away, and changed into a spaceship maintenance worker’s uniform. Most of the work here could actually be done by robots, so there weren’t many human staff members. The maintenance worker’s uniform served the same gravitational function as his previous clothes.

Yang Bo chose a warehouse filled with spare parts. With a thought, he released his mecha and popped open its cockpit.

Eight meters tall, 108 tons. It was a bit lighter than its original factory specs because it had been modified. The mecha had a Gravity System, so it wouldn’t float away. Of course, if the Gravity System were turned off, it would float.

"Tsk, tsk." With this big guy around, Yang Bo felt a lot more secure.

With a thought, Yang Bo placed his hand on the mecha.

Metal Control!

Oh, oh, oh! Yang Bo had originally thought that transforming the mecha would be very difficult. To his surprise, the moment he placed his hand on it and formed a thought, the mecha’s exterior changed.

Originally blocky and squared-off, it now looked streamlined, just like a slightly smaller tenth-generation mecha. Of course, this was only the exterior; the interior was still a third-generation mecha. It was like that certain knock-off car brand—a Porsche from afar, but up close... *cough, cough*.

"Good, good," Yang Bo muttered, watching the mecha successfully change its appearance. This way, he wouldn’t have to worry about being recognized when doing bad deeds in the future.

Looking at the Red Earl’s set of Battle Armor inside the cockpit, Yang Bo felt suspicious. This thing had been stored inside along with the mecha last time. He tried putting it on to test it out, but it was useless...

He thought, "In other words, I can put things inside the mecha’s cockpit and then store the whole thing away?

"And what about the mecha’s storage box?

"If that’s the case, I won’t have to throw away any good stuff I get in the future!"

Yang Bo knew that all mechas had designated storage compartments. He didn’t fully understand the underlying principles of the spatial storage, but that didn’t stop him from utilizing it. Looking at the Red Earl’s Battle Armor, he placed it into the mecha’s storage compartment. This thing might be of great use in the future.

Entering the cockpit, Yang Bo suddenly realized that he and the mecha felt as if they were one entity. This was the effect brought about by Metal Control and his energy of the same origin.

He took some time to familiarize himself with it first—walking, running, and wielding the five-meter-long Energy Weapon. Last time, Yang Bo had thought this thing was a third-generation mecha’s Plasma Saber, but it turned out it wasn’t. This was also made of Energy Metal, and its power was over a hundred times greater than a Plasma Saber.

He pondered, "The Red Earl’s attack wasn’t simple. The Dimension Company’s stock surged quite a bit. The key is that after this incident, the Dimension Company gained several super shareholders. Could someone have known about the Dimension Company’s super technology and set a trap?

"Or perhaps the politicians on Pado Star have some sort of conspiracy?"

The more Yang Bo thought about the Red Earl incident, the more he felt it wasn’t simple, but he ultimately pushed it aside as a passing thought.

"I’ll just hide out here for a few days," he decided.

After training for two hours, Yang Bo stored the mecha away and entered the maintenance workers’ duty room. It was secluded, spacious, and the lounge conditions were quite good. Yang Bo also discovered that his Energy Weapon could turn invisible, but the mecha couldn’t. It seemed that the battery energy inside the mecha was different from his own energy.

He could even charge up here. There were plenty of batteries meant for robots, and he could absorb some electricity to replenish himself.

Yang Bo looked at the safes in the duty room; surprisingly, they were the old-fashioned manual type. He wondered, "What is this stuff?"

With a thought, the Energy Weapon Yang Bo had bought appeared in his hand. Although these safes were made of the hardest metal, under the blue-glowing Energy Weapon, they sliced open as easily as tofu.

Inside the safe were transparent containers, each one hundred millimeters in diameter and half a meter long, filled with a viscous blue liquid. Suspended within this liquid was a firmly secured triangular cylinder, fifty millimeters in diameter and thirty centimeters long.

He thought, "A Warship Energy Stone!"

Yang Bo recognized it at a glance; this was where his Warship Maintenance Skill came into play. At the same time, Yang Bo instantly understood that these were Energy Stones exclusive to warships. A single piece weighed a whopping ten kilograms. Warships normally ran on nuclear fusion energy systems, but during combat, when the Energy Shields, Laser Cannons, and other systems were operating at full power, they required Energy Stones for support.

The defense mechanism of a warship’s Energy Shield was automatic: the stronger the external attack, the stronger the Energy Shield released. If they encountered a sudden, saturated attack from an enemy, the Energy Shield system would instantly project a massive shield. At such times, a massive amount of energy needed to be drawn. A reactor system couldn’t provide this kind of explosive energy draw, so they could only rely on Energy Stones.

He thought, "Fuck, something’s not right. This stuff is banned by the major Alliances."

Yang Bo suddenly realized something was amiss. Just then, he heard a noise. He hurriedly stripped off his clothes and stuffed them into a corner. He then turned invisible and floated up to press himself against one side of the ceiling. Because this was a zero-gravity space environment, without the gravity functions of his uniform, a person would naturally float.

Invisibility!

Right after turning invisible, he heard someone open the door to the duty room.

"We’re really out of luck this time. How did we run into such an expert?"

"Tell me about it. This line of work is getting harder and harder to do lately. We’d be better off live-streaming. Last time, we made tens of millions in just half a day of streaming."

"I wonder how many people we can capture this time, the Warship Energy Stones..."

Three people wearing Energy Armor walked in. They were chatting, but suddenly stopped when they saw the sliced-open safes.

"We have a situation!" the three of them shouted simultaneously, and the Energy Armor on their bodies instantly burst with fluorescence.

"Quick, check if the Energy Stones are gone! That’s the majority of our wealth!" shouted one of the remaining two, as the third person rapidly backed out of the room. None of their faces could be seen, as their helmets fully enclosed their heads.

Yang Bo cursed inwardly, "No wonder I couldn’t get out in time after hearing the noise; they’re all Superpower Users. Son of a bitch, I don’t know who supplies these pirates with such strategic materials. ’The Council,’ my ass! Maybe these pirates are secretly backed by those massive financial consortiums."
