Interstellar Era: Starting As a Cleaner

Chapter 82: The Pirate Leader’s Regret

The second guard Mecha that Yang Bo had used was also thrown into space, its Light Brain completely destroyed by a massive jolt of Electric Energy!

He absolutely could not let anyone know about his ability to control other Mechas. Looking at the guard’s Mecha storage area, Yang Bo planned to smash the entire place to pieces later. Once everything inside was sucked out into space, no one would ever know.

Having gained authorization for yet another Mecha, Yang Bo prepared to take out their leader first.

The Pirate Leader could never have imagined that he had already lost five Mechas and several men. Due to the jammed communications, there was simply no way for them to exchange information in time.

Of course, the Pirate Leader also wouldn’t have expected that there was someone on the Baisha Transport Ship who could operate a Mecha. If he had known, he certainly wouldn’t have been so careless. Under normal circumstances, a single Mecha would be hard-pressed to win against a formidable lineup of four Mechas and a group of Pirates.

In truth, Yang Bo underestimated himself a little. He was dissatisfied with his performance in the Training Mecha, but that training was heavily programmed. The Light Brain already knew how a player would react.

It countered based on a set algorithm, which made it feel almost as if the opponent were cheating. Essentially, the opponent in the Training Mecha knew a split second in advance whether one was going left or right. After all, the main purpose of Mecha training was to hone a Mecha Master’s reaction time.

In reality, however, during a real Mecha battle, one had no idea how the opponent would react. A countermove could only be made after the opponent initiated an action.

This slight time difference was not to be underestimated. That was exactly why, during Yang Bo’s previous fight with the Red Earl, many believed him to be an Ace Mecha Master with top-tier reaction speed and anticipation. As for why his Mecha seemed somewhat mismatched at the time—leading everyone to assume it was a third-generation model—it was precisely because achieving such a high level of combat with a third-generation machine truly showcased the Mecha Master’s own capabilities.

No one else knew that the pilot inside was just a rookie who had only recently touched a Mecha.

In the Mecha game, Yang Bo could use a several-meter-long Great Saber to slice a ten-centimeter bird in midair, or leap from hundreds of meters away and stomp squarely onto a rat. Such precise manipulation was actually incredibly difficult to master.

When a bird was Flying, it had a trajectory, but it also possessed unpredictable, split-second reactions. Thus, striking a bird was vastly more difficult than hitting a standard moving target.

He secured his third Mecha. It still took him three minutes to gain authorization. This time, Yang Bo also recharged himself with Electric Energy. After the charge, he felt much calmer.

Moreover, Yang Bo noticed that after utilizing his Skin Metalization, his mind grew exceptionally clear, and his reactions became more calculated. Much like the last time when he used his Mecha’s leg to smash directly into the enemy’s cockpit—a move that seemed unbelievable to him in hindsight—it had simply been a subconscious reaction at the time!

“Could the Mechanician path eventually evolve into a pure killing machine?” he wondered as he piloted the Mecha.

Yang Bo didn’t actually know how many Mechas the enemy had, but he estimated it was no more than fifty. He had already taken care of a tenth of them.

This time, he decided to take the maintenance corridor. He directly disabled the Mecha’s Gravity system, putting it in a weightless state. Using the Mecha’s hands to pull along the corridor’s walls, he moved rapidly through the shaft.

By taking the maintenance route, he could bypass many areas. Unsure of the enemy’s exact Mecha count and afraid of running headlong into their main force, he made his way to a chosen ambush point.

First, Yang Bo used his Invisibility to slip out and do some Reconnaissance. He planned to scout the area and see if any enemies were approaching. Only when someone came would he operate the Mecha and lie in wait.

It had to be said that the Silver Moon Pirates had encountered eight lifetimes of bad luck this time. Not only had they run into an anomaly like Yang Bo who could control their Mechas, but he could also use Invisibility to spy on them.

Originally, Yang Bo had just wanted to hide. After all, there were so many capable people around. Frankly speaking, he would rather be captured by the Pirates than expose the fact that he could summon a Mecha out of thin air, use Disguise, and utilize Invisibility. Because if those three abilities were exposed, he might as well be dead.

There was no need to check on the Pirates’ reactions beforehand either. So what if he saw them?

These Pirates were professionals. As a rookie who had only interacted with Mechas for a few days, Yang Bo didn’t want to risk the Mecha stored in his spatial dimension. Even if he became a Pirate or got sold off, as long as he still had his Mecha, staging a comeback would be relatively easy.

Later on, he was partly forced into action by the Pirates, and partly emboldened by the fact that he could control other Mechas. That made him feel much better about the situation.

After all, it wasn’t his own Mecha. If it got wrecked, he wouldn’t feel bad about it, right?

Then, having actually fought and won a real battle, his confidence had soared.

“Where is everyone? Where are those Pirates?” Yang Bo wondered. He first searched outward with the stadium as the center. But after looking around for a while and seeing no one, he decided to check the stadium itself.

Arriving at the stadium once more, knowing where these people were positioned, Yang Bo stealthily took a peek from another angle. He found six Mechas and over a dozen Pirates. The number of hostages bound on the ground was even greater than before, and the enemy leader was still up in the stands.

“These Mechas are piloted by veterans. The angles they’re standing at allow for easy fire support!” Yang Bo thought. He even had the time to analyze the positioning of the Pirate Mechas. At first, he hadn’t understood such tactics, but simply by observing, relevant tactical information flooded his mind.

He knew that his Skill only represented his theoretical upper limit. Their true, practical application required constant practice.

While Yang Bo lay in wait, the Pirate Battleship was in complete chaos.

“Bad news! We’ve detected more Mecha debris, and the vast majority of it belongs to our Mechas!”

“What exactly is going on aboard the Baisha Transport Ship? Why have the Mechas that were in contact with us also gone silent? Data transmission is still under twenty percent, and we can’t reach the leader. What do we do now?” Inside the command room of the Pirate Battleship, everyone looked grim. The Warship had taken massive damage, which inherently affected its systems and led to high Energy Consumption.

Furthermore, the Baisha Transport Ship’s built-in shielding capabilities made it impossible for those on the Warship to maintain constant communication with the Pirate Leader.

The Pirate Battleship had recently detected several violent energy fluctuations, followed immediately by the detection of a large amount of debris. Through Reconnaissance of the wreckage, they discovered that an astonishing eighty percent of the fragments belonged to their own Mechas.

For any given Mecha, as long as its material composition was known, its wreckage could be easily identified through simple data analysis.

If it weren’t for these Mecha fragments, the crew of the Pirate Battleship wouldn’t have panicked. However, their appearance proved one chilling fact: their losses were rapidly mounting.

“We have ten minutes left,” the Warship Commander said calmly. “The leader agreed to contact us every half hour. There are ten minutes remaining. If we don’t hear from him by then, we’ll know something has gone terribly wrong.”
