Chapter 81: Chapter 81: Sneak Attack! Sneak Attack!
"Hehe! You’re the one!" This time, Yang Bo returned to the area where the escort team stored their Mechas. The Mecha he selected had a high-powered Laser Cannon, similar to a heavy sniper model.
Normally, Yang Bo would never dare to choose this type of Mecha. It required a highly skilled operator. However, in his current state, he felt as if he had been piloting this machine for years—his proficiency was maxed out.
"Don’t blame me for picking the low-hanging fruit," he muttered.
Yang Bo piloted the Mecha and began his search. He already knew the location of the enemy’s boss. Therefore, the corridors surrounding that central point were unavoidable routes for the enemy Mecha squads.
Just as he approached a cabin, Yang Bo heard someone shouting inside.
"Everyone inside, come out immediately! You have ten minutes. If you don’t come out by then, we’ll breach this cabin and turn you into space trash along with the cargo!"
It was a cargo hold occupied by four Mechas and five Pirates wearing Energy Armor. In reality, they hadn’t discovered anyone hiding in the hold; they were just shouting to flush out any potential hiders. Regardless, they were there to destroy the cargo holds, whether anyone was inside or not.
The Pirates operating the four Mechas felt a bit bored. In this environment, Mechas were practically invincible. Unless the guy piloting the Rift showed up, they had nothing to fear. Even then, the crossfire from four Mechas could definitely suppress him, not to mention the backup from the men in Energy Armor.
Suddenly, the Intelligent Systems of the four Mechas blared with frantic alarms.
Before the Mecha Pilots could activate their automated Laser Systems, they felt their Mechas lose balance and crash heavily to the ground.
They hadn’t turned on the automated systems for their Laser Cannons because their objective was to capture hostages. If the automated systems were active, any hostage who popped out would be instantly blasted into a lump of charcoal.
The Pirates wearing Energy Armor were taken out by a barrage of Lasers before they could even react. They were the unluckiest of the bunch. Energy Armor wasn’t kept active at all times because it drained its own Energy reserves. Assuming they were perfectly safe with four Mechas by their side, the Pirates had completely let their guard down.
It turned out that Yang Bo’s Mecha, propelled by its Rocket Backpack, had launched a Charge almost parallel to the ground right into the four enemy Mechas. Like bowling pins struck by a ball, the four Mechas toppled over in an instant.
The Laser Cannon on Yang Bo’s Mecha had been pre-programmed to prioritize targets in Energy Armor over the Mechas. Thus, in less than a second, the five Pirates were blasted into bursts of bloody fireworks.
The four Mecha Pilots reacted quickly, activating their Laser Cannons’ automated defense systems the moment they fell. However, this defense system had one fatal flaw: the Mechas were currently tangled together.
After crashing into them, Yang Bo controlled his Mecha to grab the firing tube of one enemy’s Laser Cannon with one hand. With his other hand, he viciously thrust his melee Weapon into its cockpit. The Mecha Master had just activated his Laser Cannon’s defense system when the massive Cold Weapon pierced right through his cockpit.
Mecha Pilot +8!
The other three Mechas had their automated defenses online. Yang Bo hoisted the destroyed Mecha from the ground and hurled it viciously at them. The fully charged Laser Cannons of the three Mechas suddenly lost their targets, as their Intelligent Systems’ friend-or-foe recognition identified their comrade’s Mecha.
This was a critical flaw of the Intelligent System. The friend-or-foe recognition couldn’t distinguish whether a friendly target was actually dead or alive.
Meanwhile, Yang Bo’s Mecha Laser Cannon instantly opened fire. His Laser Cannon was a size larger than theirs; its firing rate was lower, but its Laser attack Power was significantly higher.
After throwing the ruined Mecha, Yang Bo piloted his own Mecha to charge straight at the remaining three.
Two of the three Mechas were pinned to the ground by the heavy projectile. The last one evaded the attack with a swift roll and immediately stood back up.
Charge!
The Rocket Backpack on Yang Bo’s Mecha activated instantly. His Mecha initiated a Charge and slammed into the enemy, much like a brutal bayonet thrust.
Yang Bo’s Mecha took several hits from the enemy’s Laser Cannon.
BEEP BEEP BEEP.
Alarms blared inside his cockpit, but it didn’t matter anymore. The tremendous thrust from the Rocket Backpack brought Yang Bo right in front of the enemy in the blink of an eye. He ruthlessly drove his Cold Weapon straight into the opposing cockpit.
Mecha Pilot +8!
Yang Bo’s hands moved so fast they blurred into afterimages inside the cockpit. He fired his Laser Cannon at the other two Mechas while simultaneously disengaging his Mecha’s Gravity system. With a powerful stomp, his Mecha launched itself hundreds of meters into the air. In the next second, Yang Bo executed an elegant mid-air turn and fired up the Rocket Backpack.
The Laser Cannons of the remaining two Mechas laid down ferocious suppressive fire. Yang Bo’s Mecha was on the verge of losing control, but the massive thrust of the Rocket Backpack turned him into a colossal steel monster, plummeting viciously toward the two Mechas.
Mecha Pilot +8!
During the dive, he aimed his Cold Weapon at one of the Mechas, nearly cleaving it in half.
Only one Mecha remained. Its pilot instinctively screamed for his boss over the radio system in a frantic panic. Unfortunately for him, the signal shielding effects within the cabins of the Baisha Transport Ship were absolute.
Before the knocked-down Mecha Pilot could even attempt to stand his machine up, he saw the enemy Mecha’s leg swinging down like a Hammer toward his cockpit.
Mecha Pilot +8!
Yang Bo’s Mecha was actually lying on the ground. He had simply raised one of its legs and smashed it down onto the enemy’s cockpit, crushing the fallen opponent.
Yang Bo’s hands were still trembling. After that intense skirmish, his Mecha’s damage rate had exceeded fifty percent. Many of its parts were completely immobilized, and even the Laser Cannon was jammed. That final stomp had been the absolute limit of his tactical calculations.
It was safe to say that if the enemy had just one more Mecha, Yang Bo would have been dead meat.
The battle seemed long in retrospect, but in reality, it had lasted less than five seconds.
"Damn, this is more thrilling than gambling. No wonder so many people want to be Mecha Masters!" Yang Bo controlled his Mecha to stand up. He struggled to drag the wrecked Mechas into a corridor before pulling a hydraulic switch.
The Mechas were immediately sucked out by the immense vacuum of space outside the Baisha Transport Ship, only to be smashed to pieces by the ship’s rapid rotation. As for the Pirates in their Energy Armor, they were likely obliterated into nothingness—maybe leaving just enough dust to sweep up.
"Let’s go again!" he muttered.
Having survived his first real battle, Yang Bo’s confidence had swelled. The enemy wasn’t all that tough, after all. Besides, he was striking from the shadows. They would never expect a functioning Mecha to be hiding on this Baisha Transport Ship. If things went south, he could just run. He had nothing to fear!
Yang Bo also realized that communication between Mechas on this Baisha Transport Ship was nearly impossible due to the overwhelming signal shielding.
"Should I go take out their boss first?" A crazy idea sparked in his mind.
Others might find it impossible, but Yang Bo felt it was worth a shot. He could fire his Laser Cannon straight through the walls. Wasn’t the boss sitting in the viewing gallery? He could use his Metal Control ability to pinpoint the boss’s exact location and blast him right from under his ass!
