Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4565: One-Eyed Phantasm Dreameater

Chapter 4565: One-Eyed Phantasm Dreameater

Davis’s brows twitched, his pupils dilating.

He saw his dead children, buried under swords and flames. His wives were weeping, their statures crushed, and the heavens themselves crushing him under their tribulation.

Beside him, Fairy Thunderblaze stiffened. Her aura flared into a storm of golden thunderfire as she bit her lips, trying to stay awake, but the illusory worlds were like a gateway, pulling her with a great force of attraction, and the resonance was making her sink deeper into her abject fears.

“Illusions?”

She barely heard his voice before she felt a burst of terrifying Will eclipse the world.

“Break.”

*Crack!~*

The reality around them shattered like brittle glass. The nightmare realm dissolved instantly, the monster’s eye widening- if such a formless thing could be said to have an expression, it now appeared to be full of disbelief and even fear.

“Too bad,” Davis raised his hand.

Soul force ran through his body and arm before it manifested in his grasp as an iridescent spear.

The Spear of Damnation materialized in his grip, its shaft smooth and shiny while its tip appeared like a spiraling, iridescent blade, shimmering and sparkling as though there were numerous stars inside. The aura of reincarnation burst out like a tidal wave as he moved, his figure blurring in the mist before he appeared before the Realm Calamity.

He thrust once, his arm moved forward.

The spear plunged into the One-Eyed Phantasm Dreameater’s shadowy glass body. There weren’t any big explosions. Instead, the calamity’s essence folded inward, drawn into the spear’s point as it began dissolving like a microbe that was extinguished. Its body drew closer to the tip of the spear before it dissolved into faint motes of light.

The pallid fog evaporated, leaving behind a jelly-like flesh and a silver-gray triangular core.

“Ew…”

Davis touched the jelly-like substance and felt disgusted. He didn’t know what it was useful for, but he still collected them in a container. Then he stored the One-Eyed Phantasm Dreameater’s Core, knowing he was going to improve his Illusion Laws by a huge margin.

‘Strange that I obtain this right after I make Juili my thirty-first wife. Could this belong to her?’

Davis wondered in terms of fate. His actions always had an immense effect on the people around him. Unaware, he could make or break supreme geniuses. After all, there had been no reason Karyon Stormsong would’ve become that strong without the Elegant Thunderous Stormsong Wisp, which he hadn’t obtained for so many years, yet his visit to this region caused him to obtain it in just a month?

Davis found it highly suspicious. He felt that just by appearing in a region, the waves he could make could range from a small wave to a tsunami.

Fairy Thunderblaze opened her eyes with some difficulty. She held her head, feeling a pulsing pain shoot across her forehead. Regardless, she had also come out of the illusion, which was about to cause her serious damage or even die.

She knew the One-Eyed Phantasm Dreameater was extremely dangerous.

It was capable of trapping any lifeform in a dream, even itself, to begin hibernation. Once it puts its prey in an illusion, it would then proceed to eat its energy source alive. In their case, it would stab the tentacles into their body and begin devouring their energy to feed. But its terrifying nature didn’t end there, since it could put an entire realm to sleep as long as it could latch onto the Realm Core.

This lifeform’s prowess also seemed to have reached the peak of the Empyrean Stage, so she would not have been able to escape. In the end, she would be easily killed both in the illusory world and the real world.

She rubbed her forehead.

Whether it was Karyon Stormsong or this One-Eyed Phantasm Dreameater, opponents whom she wouldn’t be able to defeat were popping one by one. It was ridiculous, making her also feel that this was due to Davis showing up.

Davis returned and saw that Karyon Stormsong still had his eyes closed and his senses shut. It seemed like he wanted to take advantage of this situation to flee. However, the One-Eyed Phantasm Dreameater’s illusory powers didn’t differentiate, so it would’ve been very difficult to escape by himself. At the same time, it was useless to shut one’s senses in this case.

Eye contact wasn’t the only way the One-Eyed Phantasm Dreameater hunted. It could also affect anyone who was in its range, so he knew Karyon Stormsong was not in the aftereffects of the illusion, right now experiencing bliss as he could be escaping from him in the illusory worlds.

“He is trapped. His Will has collapsed, seeking shelter.” Fairy Thunderblaze also noticed.

The fact that Karyon Stormsong didn’t open his eyes even after the One-Eyed Phantasm Dreameater’s illusion was no longer active meant that he had enclosed himself in those nightmares that now turned into sweet dreams. He sought rest, a way to get out of the nightmare that was the Divine Emperor of Death.

Davis’s expression turned derisive, “I didn’t expect him to be as pathetic as his little brother. Is there no brave supreme genius who wouldn’t break under pressure?”

Fairy Thunderblaze’s lips curled, “You’re expecting too much of children who haven’t faced any real life and death situations. Having been spoon-fed their whole lives, they are more likely to flee upon facing their first real nightmare. Until that, the personality they’ve shown, the image they’ve built up, and even their Will to tackle problems are all fake. This is the problem with supreme geniuses. Some are like this even as they become elders.”

“It couldn’t be all fake.” Davis argued, chuckling, “Let’s just say I’m a menace.”

“Sure, you’re scary when you stop talking.” Fairy Thunderblaze’s shoulders shook lightly.

Davis was left speechless. By default, he wasn’t trying to come off as scary anyway. What would he do if he were going to chase away the women he loved? Where would he go to cry if they all flee from him?

“You have a strong Will too to not get easily trapped in the illusions.”

Davis praised her as he picked up Karyon Stormsong’s head, giving him waking-up slaps.

“Hey! Wake up, wake up, I say. We don’t have time to spend on you. Is that all you’ve planned for us?”

Davis sent waves of soul force into Karyon Stormsong’s soul, forcefully waking him up.

“Ah!” He screamed out loud since it damaged his soul. His eyes turned moist, and he gazed at the Divine Emperor of Death, who was holding him.

“No… You aren’t real… You were eaten by the One-Eyed Phantasm Dreameater…!”

He shook his head vehemently, tears spilling out.

Fairy Thunderblaze could only shake her head. Karyon Stormsong couldn’t even tell the difference between reality and illusion. That was a major sign that his Will had collapsed and was yet to recover. He still thought that he was in an illusion and that the sweet dreams and once again changed into nightmares.

Davis ignored him and looked into the distance.

He sensed the Elegant Thunderous Stormsong Wisp peek out from the side of a distant mountain. He narrowed his eyes, thinking that it was responsible for sending the One-Eyed Phantasm Dreameater.

“Capture it.”

“Don’t command me.” Fairy Thunderblaze harrumphed lightly, but she went there.

Her figure transformed into a thunderbolt and appeared behind the Elegant Thunderous Stormsong Wisp in one fell swoop. She threw one of her trump cards, the Divine Thundervine Tempest Gourd. Grasping the gourd, she unleashed a few divine lightning vines that wrapped around the Elegant Thunderous Stormsong Wisp, trapping it.

*Wii!~*

It flailed and tried to flee, but was unable to move. In the end, it was absorbed into the gourd.

“Oh? As expected. She has some trump cards to defend herself…”

Davis saw that the Divine Thundervine Tempest Gourd was at Low-Level Primarch Grade. It had increased in grade compared to the last time he heard about it, since it was at Peak-Level Empyrean Grade. He knew this treasure also carried the secrets behind her mastering of divine lightning. It was very possibly what changed the course of her cultivation path to one of Thunderfire Laws instead of Firestorm Laws.

Nonetheless, Davis looked down at Karyon Stormsong, soulscouring him.

Supreme geniuses tend to be less restricted when it comes to the matter of their power’s secrets. The Ancient Will slumbering within him to protect arose, but it was quickly suppressed and crushed by the laws of this land- no, dimension.

It was a bigger power restricting even their cultivations.

With that, Karyon Stormsong’s memories freely flowed into him.

A plethora of jumbled memories flashed through Davis’s mind. He could see Karyon Stormsong having many connections, many adventures, many women, none of them he married, but kept as playthings or one-time affairs, except a woman known as Viska Stormsong.

He recognized this woman, thinking she was probably getting pulverized by his sons and daughter back near the fortress.

To his surprise, he also saw Keira Stormsong, Aric Stormsong’s ex-fiancée, spend three nights with him and promise to share a future by Viska Stormsong’s side.

Davis went speechless. He saw many things that would make people’s jaws drop before he willed the information on this illusory space.

Then he knew what had happened.

The One-Eyed Phantasm Dreameater used the Elegant Thunderous Stormsong Wisp as its heater, keeping it by its side while it was asleep. Then Karyon Stormsong happened to come by and save it and leave successfully, causing the One-Eyed Phantasm Dreameater to wake up and roam in search of the Elegant Thunderous Stormsong Wisp.

So when the Elegant Thunderous Stormsong Wisp retreated here, it had likely relayed to the One-Eyed Phantasm Dreameater that there was tasty food here and acted like it had never left.

“What a fool… loyal to its useless master…”

Davis shook his head, “Kill the wisp.”

He commanded, causing Fairy Thunderblaze to giggle, “The gourd has already started to digest it. Didn’t you want to kill it before?”

Davis sighed, “It’s just a wisp and not the Stormsong Family. If it was influenced, then it should be given a second chance. Since it dared to send a monster against us, then it should pay the price.”

Fairy Thunderblaze smiled, “The ‘Elegant’ in their name not only indicates their personality but also their disposition. They’re loyal beings, so the Stormsong Family came up in their lives even stronger than the powers that had captured ranked first and second Lightning Elementals of Heaven-Tier in Empyrean Grade. It’d be nearly impossible to change their minds, but they have a use. Their lightning is incredibly powerful and useful.”

“So you wanted the Elegant Thunderous Stormsong Wisp and not Karyon Stormsong from the start?”

“Correct.”

Fairy Thunderblaze’s lips curled as though she had won.
