Chapter 4778 Catching Up With The Children
Eterna landed before the grand hall near the entrance and ran towards him, holding his hands. Her eyes turned moist, and she brought his hands to her face as though wanting to feel his warmth.
"I was so worried about you! Where did you go when you said you would be back in a few days?"
'When did I say that?' Davis was stumped, but he hurriedly comforted her as he saw the genuine grievance in her eyes.
Celestia and the others were stunned as they saw Eterna shed tears. They didn't know that she had been carrying such grief in her heart since she had always been full of smiles, cheering them up no matter what. If they didn't know better, they knew she would be planning to get something from their father with the way she acted just now.
"Come, come…"
Davis called his children over and sat with them.
He gave a good look at Azariel, Viridia, Eterna, Celestia, and Lucian from left to right while Evelynn accompanied him by his side.
Azariel straightened his back first as though sensing his father's gaze that carried the weight of responsibility. His purple eyes glimmered with an unrestrained cunningness that of a viper, but it no longer belonged to the impulsive youth who thought time was running out and that only his suffering to improve could blaze a path forward.
Viridia sat beside Azariel, the twins nearly inseparable. Her gorgeous purplish-green hair, similar to her mother's, appeared problematic as there were jade hairpins laced with poison inside. Her calm and restrained attitude was still there, but he didn't doubt she was as explosive as her mother.
Eterna had just cried, so her face was glowing with a bashful shyness, but her heart was as blazing as always. Her lips curled into a dazzling smile, filled with confidence now that her father was back. Like her mother, she was quite playful, but as a leader, one couldn't find anything lacking in her, as she sat in the center amidst her siblings as if it were her place from the beginning.
Celestia also maintained her usual aloofness despite being happy at the fact that her father had returned.
But the most prevalent change he could see was from Lucian.
Although he looked youthful, he had lost his childishness and possessed a stern face. Although he could still be kind, Davis felt that he had transformed into a mature, dignified, and prideful man.
Observing all this, Davis leaned back slightly.
He knew he had been a bad father, neglecting his children most of the time because of cultivation and other reasons. Since he had to stay put and not make a move, he gathered them together and looked at them with a proud gaze.
It seemed like they had considerably grown stronger from the time we had last seen them.
He wasn't surprised since Dalila had been with them. With her capabilities, making them specialized pills wasn't off the table. Besides, he could also see that their characters had also undergone a subtle change of temperament.
He was interested in knowing how they spent their days in the Wrathful Aeons Shard Region that was full of fire, lightning, and thunder; what kind of supreme geniuses they had come across, and what kind of decisions they made in interacting with them. He was sure they had killed a few people already since their gaze was no longer the same, especially Eterna and Celestia, who looked a bit firmer and seasoned.
"Tell me." Davis started, "I want to know what you all experienced in the past year- what you learned,"
"Father, we didn't waste the time you entrusted us with." Azariel was the first to speak, "We nearly battled every day, most of it done to gain experience. We encountered many supreme geniuses who thought we were easy prey. If they didn't bother, we provoked them. As much as it was fun to watch them flail around and act stupidly, we were ultimately decisive in dealing with them, so our names became known. There is barely no one here who doesn't recognize us, except a few."
He vaguely glanced at Viridia before continuing, "At first, we traveled with Mother Juili. Many factions brought their hidden supreme geniuses, but they were no match for Mother Juili, nor us. We had spent a lot of time with her. I must say… Mother Juili is quite suitable for you."
"I know she is." Davis was eager to test her unique physique against his own Will.
Azariel nodded, "Mother Juili made sure to make us feel at home with her. I could tell that she was trying her best in order to accommodate us, so I no longer kept my distance from her and started calling her Mother Juili. The same could be said of others."
"Mhm~" Eterna nodded, "I love Mother Juili. She could've been my real friend, but because my father chose her, we cannot be friends. Otherwise, the seniority would be messed up!~"
She complained, causing Davis and the others to laugh.
The others also nodded, echoing Azariel and Eterna's sentiments regarding Xiu Juili.
Davis knew the serpent woman could handle herself with grace and cunningness. However, he honestly didn't expect her to topple the barrier that his adult children would put up. He could only nod in surprise inwardly in regards to her social ability.
He continued listening to more of their adventures and occasionally stopped to share his own adventure, minus the troubles.
He kept Fairy Thunderblaze's mess away from them, as the children didn't need to know.
Without saying, Azariel and his siblings were stunned beyond compare when they heard their father met with extraordinary existences that shouldn't exist in the Lower Realms and even the Upper Realms. They sat straight, listening attentively, their gazes full of awe and respect that they wouldn't usually show.
He continued grinding this information, even embellishing some scenes and getting reactions out of them to feel more prideful, leaving Evelynn speechless.
She knew he wouldn't even do that to entertain the harem, but in front of the children, he seemed to have become a child himself, wanting to brag, wanting to look cool.
As they sat and talked into the day, eventually half a day passed.
Soon, one group that had left to check on the spatial vortex also returned.
Davis learned that it led to an entrenched area somewhere in the Six-Headed Hydra Upper Realm. Apparently, it was barred by a killing formation, and Azariel's avatar had been struck dead. Nadia and Eterna had returned with the information, along with apologizing for being unable to protect Azariel, even though it wasn't their fault since he had ventured ahead in their stead.
Someone had to move forward in order to check.
"Well done, Azariel." He praised his son for his effort to take the initiative.
But for a moment, his expression turned peculiar, making him wonder if he should take his Empyrean Tribulation there and then sneak back to their new home in that celestial body.
'This is well worth considering… but oh well, I need to go see first make sure that our path to the celestial body is connected smoothly and they have all transferred before kicking up any trouble…'
Davis panned his gaze at his children, feeling like he needed to depend on them.
With a solemn expression, he spoke to them, "Soon, you will see your little brothers and sisters. You all have the responsibility to take care of them, but it is a thankless job since chances are that they will not repay you, so I won't force any of you to forgo your cultivation time in order to look after them. But when the chance presents itself, I need you all to impart the teachings of the Davis Family in the form of practical teaching. How about it? Can I depend on you all?"
