"You see, my daughter, European Magus Families synthesize and refine Mana Circuits within their bodies, while also crystallizing Mana Cores and forging Internal Magic Circles. Warriors adhere to strict training regimens, mastering their weapons and blending their Intent with Mana to form Auras," my father explained.
"Oohh..." I nodded.
"There are countless methods, each creating unique paths to power. Naturally, most remain concealed from society," he continued.
"I see. I mean, I can tell by observing the people here," I said.
"Indeed, you're correct," my father nodded. "Some, like Medea, wield immense magical power through a blend of Magic Circuits, Mana Cores, Magic Circles, Curses, and Contracts with otherworldly beings."
"I also carry divine blood from the Olympian Gods," Medea said. "Perhaps you didn't know, but my grandfather is the Sun God, Helios. My father, King Aeëtes of Colchis, was his Demigod son, and my mother, Eidyia, was an Oceanid, a Spirit of the Ocean. Oh, and my father's aunt, Circe, is still alive somewhere."
"Wow! That's an incredible lineage, Medea," I said, amazed. "It explains why you're so strong... but the Sun God Helios? Do you wield sun magic?"
"I traded it for a potent form of Darkness Magic, Abyssal Cursed Chaos Magic," she explained. "Through a Contract with a Nameless Archfiend."
"O-Oh..." I said, surprised. "Why?"
"I didn't want reminders of my father or grandfather back then... but even now, I have no regrets," she shrugged. "My master... well, I studied under several masters of magic, all demons."
"She's undoubtedly our most gifted member," Frankenstein said. "By comparison, I'm merely a humble human who had a dream and have pursued it relentlessly, no matter the cost. I've modified my body using Alchemy, Science, and Magic. My first creation, the Monster of Frankenstein, as some call it—or simply named after me, which confuses some—was key to understanding the science of creating, modifying, and enhancing human beings. I seek true immortality through my research and aim to forge the Philosopher's Stone, the ultimate treasure and pinnacle of Alchemy sought by all Alchemists."
"I-I see..." I muttered. "Um, where's your son?"
"He hates me and betrayed me," the doctor sighed, shrugging. "He joined the Vampires later, turned by a woman he loves... Now, whenever we meet, we're enemies, but I can never fully fight him. I feel too much guilt."
"I'm sorry to hear that..." I said. "Have you considered mending your relationship somehow?"
"No," he said. "I believe it's simply impossible..."
"Hm, okay," I said. I didn't want to pry further. "And what about you, Wasp?"
"...I practice Cultivation Methods from various Unorthodox and Demonic Sects of East Asia," he explained. "I grow stronger by battling, forging, refining, and exhausting my body and Intent until they break. Then, I regenerate and repeat the process. It's not suited for humans. My tribe's self-regeneration abilities make it possible."
"Oh yeah, your 'human appearance' is just a spell, right?" I wondered. "That bug form is your true self."
"Yes," he nodded. "Is it unsettling to you, young lady?"
"Of course not. I can get pretty bug-like myself. We're quite similar," I giggled.
"..." He remained silent.
"And what about Mirabilis?" I asked.
"Growing stronger is challenging for Shoggoths, but we grow larger by devouring powerful beings," she explained. "Gazing upon the abyss and refining Cosmic Energy... but I haven't done that in eons."
"Young lady, you need to learn proper fighting techniques," Wasp said. "You rely heavily on brute strength and lack finesse. In fact, you have none."
"Yes, if you knew what you were doing half the time, you'd be far stronger," Doctor Frankenstein said.
"Learning to conjure Magic efficiently, without wasting Mana and Essence, would help. You also leak your presence when casting spells," Medea said.
"Ahh, do I lack that many skills?!" I wondered. "I think I'm fairly strong..."
"You are, but you depend too much on raw power," Wasp said. "Remember when your father fought the Sun God? Did you notice how he fought?"
"Very roughly...? No... he was remarkably skilled at assessing the opponent's strength, intercepting blows, predicting attacks, and... controlling his energy precisely," I said, surprised.
"Hm," my father nodded with a smile, his chaotic flames turning red. "Despite my origins, I learned much about this world. I absorbed every technique I could find, mastered them over time, and, inspired by your mother, studied Martial Arts. I combined various methods to create my own Fighting System."
Right, I rely heavily on the System and Skills for nearly everything, but that approach is shallow without true understanding. Genesis lacks these disciplines. It's all about accumulating power and exploiting the System.
"Divine Power, Magic, Strength—it's meaningless before a true master if you don't know how to wield it," Wasp explained. "You might encounter someone stronger or even weaker than you who could defeat you through superior technique. Don't grow arrogant, young lady."
"I know..." I nodded. "I suppose I must take this seriously, learning properly instead of just seeking resources to consume."
Gluttony remains my primary source of power, but they're correct. I need to master my abilities.
To create my own Martial Arts System like my father, my own Unique Cultivation Techniques, my own Spell Casting System, and so forth.
And Wasp is correct. I've already faced someone who defeated me, and he wasn't even in a higher realm than mine.
Noah.
That guy was a complete and true monster, without my power to revive endlessly, creating a constant loop he couldn't understand yet, I would have lost. No, practically, I already lost to him! I should stop being so arrogant and just accept it.
He's a powerful old monster that I should have watched for, but well, I never imagined he would come after me like that. But I should have guessed he disliked how I ended up taking that sun.
Although the Sun of Abyss helped me ascend and become even stronger, it caused a lot of problems, not just Noah hating me and coming for my life, but also the Sun God appearing and desiring nothing but to take it back.
I don't know what intentions Noah has with this world, but the Sun God wants it all, and he doesn't even want to share a piece of the cake with anybody else... except demons and vampires? For some reason.
Although it feels like they're just working for him out of fear.
