Death… And Me

Chapter 4538: Right in Front

Chapter 4538: Right in Front

Far away from Dlaval City, a certain airplane continued making its way back. However, the Navy-Blue Energy Threads that had been constantly following and attacking it were nowhere to be seen anymore.

—

Going back fifteen minutes...

Before Rean, Kentucky, Kachia, and Celis proceeded with their own plans, Celis scrambled the energy flow that carried the same properties as the one used by the Navy-Blue Energy Threads. That immediately destabilized whatever was controlling them, causing the threads to stop targeting the airplane. Thanks to that brief opening, Roan immediately used Rean’s Body Transformation Technique to change both his appearance and aura.

Mario and Revana were also told to inject their Godly Energy into their bracelets. Those bracelets had something very similar to the Werdlem Divine Stones used by the Werdlem Empire, although they allowed their owners to simulate someone else’s aura instead of an energy signature. Naturally, that required dantians or cores to provide the aura they wanted to imitate, and Rean happened to have three suitable ones available.

Whose were they? Obviously, they belonged to the three cultivators the twins had killed when they first arrived in Woster. No better source could be found than cultivators who had actually lived inside Woster their entire lives. The bracelets contained fragments of those three cultivators’ dantians or cores, sealed inside by countless microrunes. The bracelets themselves had been created long ago, although the fragments had only been added after those cultivators were killed.

Now, Roan and the couple had completely different auras emanating from their bodies. As long as their theory was correct and the Navy-Blue Threads had been targeting them through their auras, the threads shouldn’t be able to perceive their existence after Celis scrambled the energy flow. The scramble would cause whoever or whatever was controlling the threads to lose its targets, and there would be no reason for it to immediately recognize the new auras Roan’s group had acquired.

All of that only took around a minute. Nonetheless, for that entire minute, the Navy-Blue Threads didn’t pursue Roan’s group. Rean’s airplane could naturally fly at a speed equivalent to an Initial Stage Zone God, so by the time Celis’s interference ended, Roan’s group was already far from there. Roan also made sure to change direction after leaving the threads behind, making it even more difficult for them to locate the airplane again.

—

Back in the present, fifteen minutes had passed since the Navy-Blue Threads were left behind. Celis’s scrambling of the energy flow had only lasted for around a minute, and those threads had clearly demonstrated that they could track the airplane even while it traveled at such speed.

That meant Roan, Mario, and Revana hadn’t seen a single thread during the last fourteen minutes. At least to Roan, that was strong confirmation that they had indeed been targeted through their original auras.

Of course, Roan wasn’t foolish enough to simply drop his guard because of that. He continued carefully observing the surroundings while constantly making slight changes to the airplane’s direction. Ultimately, however, he was still making his way back toward Dlaval City.

"You two," Roan said, looking at Mario and Revana. "The bracelets have their own internal storage of Godly Energy. The reserves should last for around ten hours, so make sure to refill them every nine hours or so. Otherwise, your auras will return to their original forms, and I’m not sure whether those things will immediately begin targeting you again."

Mario and Revana had been so busy worrying about the Navy-Blue Threads that they hadn’t even realized their auras had been changed. Hearing Roan’s explanation, both looked down at the bracelets. "So that’s what these bracelets do..."

Roan nodded. "Fortunately, I was right about those threads’ targeting capabilities. Otherwise, we would probably still have an entire army of them chasing this airplane."

"Se-Senior..." Revana swallowed hard before continuing. "W-What should we do now? Are we going to be targeted by the ghost all over Dlaval and the Godly Creatures’ Territory forever?"

Roan narrowed his eyes. Indeed, that was a very real possibility. Whatever had been controlling the threads had clearly reacted to their interference, and Roan’s group had no idea how far that reaction could go.

"I’ll find a safe place and let you two out there," Roan finally said. "As for what will happen afterward, I’m not sure. You probably already guessed it, but we survived the so-called Ghost of Woster. More importantly, we apparently made something—or someone—very angry by doing so."

"Obviously, there was never any ghost. There were only those Navy-Blue Threads. In any case, don’t drop your guard. If anything, you two should lay low for a while and avoid making any appearances inside the city. If you have somewhere you can hide, I suggest you do exactly that."

Roan noticed their expressions becoming even more frightened, so he added something else before they could misunderstand his intentions.

"I’m not saying I’ll simply abandon you. It’s just that I don’t have time to take care of the two of you right now. I initially needed you to confirm my suspicions, but the results of that investigation were something I never expected."

"The good news is that I now believe escaping this isolated world is possible. I still need to conduct a few more investigations, but if my theory turns out to be correct, I might be able to bring the two of you out as well. Or perhaps..." Roan paused for a moment as another possibility crossed his mind. "Perhaps there won’t even be a need for that."

Mario and Revana didn’t understand what he meant, but neither dared interrupt him.

"In any case, take these." Roan threw two Godly Predator Crystals toward the Aura God couple. Naturally, Mario and Revana were shocked when they caught them. Even in Woster, Godly Predator Crystals were valuable resources for cultivators of their level.

"This..."

Roan continued, "You can use them for cultivation for a while. Now, do you have a place where I can drop you?"

Mario exchanged a glance with Revana before gathering his courage. "Wouldn’t it be better if we stayed with you, Senior?"

"No," Roan answered without hesitation. "Things are going to become much more dangerous for me from now on. More dangerous than anything the two of you have experienced so far. I’ll most likely be on the Rosvelt Sect’s bad side before long, and believe me, you don’t want to stay close to me once that happens."

"The Rosvelt Sect?!" Mario and Revana’s hearts skipped a beat. Could it be that what they had just done somehow angered the Rosvelt Sect? It certainly seemed possible now that Roan had suddenly brought up the name of the most powerful organization in Dlaval.

"W-We understand," Revana said after a moment. "There is a place where you can let us out."

Roan nodded. "If you don’t believe me, that’s not a problem either. If you eventually decide that going to the Rosvelt Sect would be safer, then just do it. Perhaps you can make some kind of deal with them or whatever. I will hold no grudge if you tell them about me."

He then shrugged. "I was the one who put you two into this situation, so I’ll take responsibility for that much. What you decide to do afterward is up to you."

Mario and Revana couldn’t help but find that interaction strange. Taking responsibility even if you were the cause was an extremely rare thing in Woster, especially for someone at Roan’s level of cultivation. Well... they still believed Roan was a Law God or at least a Zone God.

"Understood, Senior," Mario finally said. "We will think about it."

"Good." Roan nodded. "Then show me where you want to go."

—

Meanwhile, in the northern section of Dlaval City, Thery, Arcis, Haniala, and Sison had just left through the city gates. Everyone was flying on Arcis’s back as he made his way toward a new secret location.

Naturally, since Coyui had told the Rosvelt Sect everything, their original vault containing the Teleport Array was most likely already occupied. They had also received Rean’s warning through the RC network, explaining everything that had happened.

"To think Coyui wasn’t actually sent out..." Arcis wore a terrible expression.

"Sigh..." Thery shook his head helplessly. "It’s a good thing we were warned ahead of time. It wouldn’t have taken long for the Thousand-Script Sect to receive the news as well. If we were still there by then, we would have been completely finished."

"Rean’s RC network in the hotel couldn’t have been more convenient, I’ll tell you," Haniala added.

Arcis, however, wasn’t feeling quite as optimistic. When Rean had rented the hotel room, he hadn’t changed his appearance. That meant the Rosvelt Sect’s investigation would eventually lead them there, and once that happened, their RC network inside the hotel was bound to be discovered and shut down.

"We can talk more about it once we gather together again," Arcis said. "For now, let’s focus on reaching the next meeting point."

—

Not too far behind them, Lukay and Flugel weren’t feeling much better either. They had also received Rean’s warning and immediately rushed out of the city before the situation collapsed on top of them inside the northern branch of the Arrays Guild.

"Arcis and the others are heading to the other meeting point," Flugel said as they continued traveling. "We can talk more there. Roan should also be making his way back from Woster’s borders."

"What about Rean and the others?" Lukay asked.

Flugel shook his head. "He only said that his group still had other things to do. He promised to explain everything later."

Lukay had his doubts. "I wonder if our RC network in the hotel will even survive long enough for us to regroup."

Neither of them had an answer to that.

—

Everything mentioned above happened during the fifteen minutes between the moment Coyui was brought into the meeting hall and the moment the elders came outside looking for Kentucky and Kachia.

Back at the Rosvelt Sect, also at the present time...

"Let me see those badges," High-Elder Falasliu said, extending his hand toward the sect disciple who had found them.

"Yes, High-Elder!" The disciple immediately nodded and passed the badges to Falasliu.

Little did any of them notice the faint smile on that disciple’s face as he handed them over. As mentioned before, Rean’s group hadn’t actually left the sect yet. Not only that, but one of them—Rean himself—was literally standing right in front of the Sect Master and the High-Elders! He was the one who ’found’ the badges!
