Death… And Me

Chapter 4544: Seat

Chapter 4544: Seat

"The Thousand-Script Sect didn’t really have records mentioning why my Thousand-Script Race was locked to this part of the Celestial Plane. However, it did mention that a long-gone ancestor had once attempted to leave Woster," Thery explained.

Roan and the others got confused. "What’s new about it? We’ve heard about many cultivators who tried to leave and died."

"That’s the thing," Thery continued. "According to those records, he didn’t go away from Dlaval City. Instead, he seems to have found something inside Dlaval that could possibly send him out. In one of the passages of this ancestor’s journal, it mentioned a binding force he discovered that was connected to his bloodline."

"However, that’s where the records stopped. He likely left after writing down his findings and never returned to write what happened next. I couldn’t find anything about whether he died or not... or maybe I just didn’t have enough time to keep looking into it. If there were any other records that told more, they are out of range now."

"There is more," Sison joined. "As Senior Thery mentioned, we didn’t have time to find any other records regarding that Ancestor. Yet, Haniala and I did find some equally old records, likely from the time when that Ancestor left, regarding a phenomenon that happened in Dlaval."

Haniala took it from there. "The phenomenon was only related to those who had our race’s bloodline. Regardless of whether it was a hybrid expert or someone with a pure bloodline, all of them suffered the effects. It was said that the sky of Dlaval City had suddenly filled with countless ancient runes, like the ones we find around the city."

"Because our race has natural bloodline runes, everyone was affected by those ancient runes, and as long as you were part of the Thousand-Script Race, your consciousness was lost. It was considered quite the tragedy for the Thousand-Script Race members since many of them died."

Thery nodded. "We obviously perused many other old records in the Thousand-Script Race, and it was pretty obvious that things back then were even more chaotic than they were today. To us, Woster looks like a land without laws. Yet, this right now can already be considered heaven compared to what it was at that time."

"Many cultivators didn’t lose the chance to rob and even kill those with the Thousand-Script Race bloodline, and that’s not talking about the many other things that were done to both men and women alike. High-Level Experts, including some Law Gods, suddenly became unconscious, after all. And it seems like everyone stayed unconscious for several days."

"Experiments, robbery, invasion... the Thousand-Script Race lost many things back then. Also..." Thery stopped for a moment, sighing as he thought about it. "A few months later, Woster came to have its greatest boom in Thousand-Script Race and other Bloodlines Hybrid births."

Roan and the others weren’t idiots. They could easily tell that the unconscious women from the Thousand-Script race were used plenty during the days they all stayed unconscious. That’s not even considering the experts who were taken as hostages and used for even worse things, like the experiments Thery mentioned.

"I see..." Roan nodded. "What happened after they woke up?"

"We didn’t look that far into it," Thery said. "As I said, we weren in the midst of looking into those old records when Rean suddenly told us about Coyui in the Rosvelt Sect. We left straight away before the information got to the sect. We would have no chance of escaping if we didn’t."

Roan and the others went silent as they pondered the things Thery’s group told them. A sky covered in ancient runes that no one seemed capable of doing anything about. The Thousand-Script Race members who went unconscious. The events that followed that Thery’s group didn’t have the time to check...

"Do you think this is related to your Thousand-Race’s problem, where you can only ascend to this part of the Celestial Plane and nowhere else?" Roan asked Thery’s group.

Thery obviously had thought about it. "I don’t know. The problem was that Woster never really held any reliable time-recording methods that I could find in those records. If I could at least tell if this phenomenon started at the same time as my race got stuck with ascending here, then I could say it was related."

"Unfortunately, this phenomenon we read about might have happened at a completely different time. I asked the caretakers of the records there before we got Rean’s call. They said they also weren’t sure how long it had been since those records had been written. Only the records up to a few hundred thousand years ago had reliable time markings. The vast majority has nothing useful in that regard."

"Weren’t you able to find where this phenomenon originated?" Flugel asked, curious.

"Unfortunately, it only said that the runes appeared all over Dlaval City and beyond." Thery wanted an answer for that too. "It could very well have been inside Dlaval, or it could have been somewhere else in Woster. Maybe it didn’t happen in Woster at all, and Woster was only seeing part of a phenomenon that started outside. There is no way to know."

Roan obviously shared Thery’s words with Rean, Kentucky, and Celis.

"By the way," Lukay was curious. "What was this ancestor called?"

Thery was just about to answer before Roan cut in. "Azerion."

Thery, Sison, and Haniala’s eyes opened wide. "How did you know that?!"

Back in the Rosvelt Sect, Rean had finally arrived at the bottom of the underground silo. At some point, the walls of the underground passage where the stairs spiralled down disappeared. After descending for a few more minutes, Rean found himself standing on the ground again.

It was hard to notice, but the pillar at the center increased in diameter the further he went down, and when he finally got to the bottom, the pillar was already several hundred meters in radius.

Fortunately, things here were a lot more illuminated, so he could see the surroundings pretty clearly. Not far away, he could see a mound of earth with a recently destroyed door. Its appearance reminded him of the small hill with the teleport array they had used.

That didn’t matter, though. Instead, Rean was looking right at the pillar. To be more specific, he was looking at a man with the body of the Thousand-Script Race. He looked so old that one wouldn’t be blamed if they thought the guy was only a skeleton. Most importantly, he was seated on a stone throne connected to the pillar, and there was a name on the top of that throne.

Azerion!
