Chapter 3834: High Elder Is Away
The four administrative disciples exchanged glances after hearing Little Bull’s explanation. For a few moments, none of them spoke. Then the disciple with the dark circles under his eyes let out a tired sigh and took out a jade slip from his storage tool.
"Fine. We’ll check where High Elder Shatter Peak went," he said. "It shouldn’t take long."
The others nodded and began sending messages through their own communication jade slips. Lin Mu stood beside them patiently, watching as the four disciples contacted several different administrative offices.
At first, the matter seemed simple.
High ranking members of the sect usually left records whenever they traveled between major divisions or courts. The Heavenly Stream Guardian Sect was simply too large for people to wander around without any documentation.
With billions of people connected to the sect in some manner and hundreds of millions of disciples moving between different areas, keeping records was necessary to prevent chaos. Unfortunately, High Elder Shatter Peak did not seem particularly interested in preventing chaos.
"He didn’t leave a departure notice," one disciple said after checking his jade slip.
"Nothing in the Wild Peak movement records either," another replied.
The third disciple frowned. "Did he use a personal flying tool?"
"High Elder Shatter Peak?" The fourth gave him a strange look. "When have you ever seen him use a flying tool?"
The disciple fell silent.
"Right."
Little Bull scratched his head while looking between them. "So you don’t know where he is?"
"We’re checking," the first disciple quickly replied.
Lin Mu could tell that the four were beginning to grow irritated, though their irritation was clearly directed toward High Elder Shatter Peak rather than him. They contacted another office and waited several minutes for a reply.
The answer they received was equally useless. High Elder Shatter Peak had not submitted any mission request, had not visited the Body Cultivation Division’s administrative offices, and had not reported to any of the Inner Court’s major divisions.
One of the disciples finally rubbed his temples. "Of course he didn’t."
"Should we check the teleportation records?" another suggested.
"We don’t have permission."
"Ask Elder Qin."
"He’ll ask why."
"Tell him we’re searching for High Elder Shatter Peak."
"He’ll ask what the High Elder did."
"Then tell him we don’t know."
The four disciples stared at each other for a moment. Somehow, that explanation seemed perfectly reasonable when High Elder Shatter Peak was involved. A message was sent to one of their administrative elders, and much to their surprise, the reply came almost immediately.
The elder did not even ask for further clarification. Permission to access the relevant teleportation records was granted without question, leaving Lin Mu wondering just how often people needed to search for members of the Wild Peak.
The four disciples hurried toward a nearby administrative station where several formation screens were installed.
One of them placed his disciple token against a formation plate while another entered the authorization code provided by their elder. Rows of information appeared upon the translucent screen, displaying records of people who had used the major teleportation arrays during the last two days.
"High Elder Shatter Peak," the disciple muttered while narrowing the search.
The records rapidly changed.
Then a single entry appeared.
"Found him."
The other three leaned closer.
"Core Court?"
"He went to the Core Court this morning."
"That explains why no one could find him."
Little Bull looked at them curiously. "Can I go there?"
All four disciples immediately turned toward him. "No."
The answer came so quickly that Little Bull blinked. "Why?"
"You’re an Inner Court disciple," one explained. "Your token won’t grant you unrestricted access to the Core Court continent."
"Some areas can be visited with permission, but you need a proper reason."
"And an authorization request."
"Which usually needs an elder’s approval."
Little Bull scratched his head. "I wanted to find an elder."
The four disciples looked at each other again. Technically, it was a valid reason. They simply had no desire to begin another chain of administrative requests because Little Bull wanted to chase High Elder Shatter Peak across the entire sect.
The disciple with the unshaven face finally sighed. "You should return to the Wild Peak."
Little Bull frowned slightly. "But I still need to ask him what I’m supposed to do."
"High Elder Shatter Peak probably won’t remain in the Core Court for long," the disciple assured him. "He doesn’t follow a fixed schedule, but he rarely stays there for extended periods."
"How long?"
The disciple opened his mouth before pausing. "A few hours."
Another disciple shook his head. "Sometimes a few days."
"He once stayed for six months."
"That was because Peak Head Mountain Roar locked him inside a cultivation chamber."
"Does that count as staying?"
The four began arguing quietly among themselves. Little Bull watched them with a blank expression. Lin Mu, meanwhile, sighed internally. It was becoming increasingly clear that relying upon High Elder Shatter Peak for any kind of routine was a terrible idea.
Eventually, the disciples stopped arguing and once more told Little Bull to return to the Wild Peak.
They assured him that the High Elder would eventually appear, and if he truly needed guidance, he could ask any of the other elders or disciples there. Considering how the Wild Peak functioned, they were certain someone would eventually point him in the right direction.
Little Bull nodded. "Okay. Thank you."
The four disciples visibly relaxed. "No problem."
They quickly brought Little Bull back to the flying cart and personally escorted him to the Wild Peak. This time, Lin Mu paid greater attention to the route they took and memorized several landmarks along the way.
The flying cart was considerably slower than Little Shrubby, though it gave him enough time to observe the surrounding regions. By the time they reached the massive mountain range of the Wild Peak, Lin Mu had already added several more locations to the map in his mind.
The cart landed near one of the main courtyards. Little Bull climbed down and waved enthusiastically. "Bye!"
The four administrative disciples waved back. Then the flying cart immediately shot into the distance.
