Chapter 4061: Making A Two Pronged Approach

Chapter 4061: Making A Two Pronged Approach

"Senior agrees?" The Grand Elder raised his brows.

"Of course I agree," Zhenyu replied. "Do you think I enjoy chasing rats that have already hidden themselves? Let them keep watching the Wild Peak while you search for their holes from behind."

The Grand Elder nodded. "That is precisely what I had in mind."

"Hmph. Seems there’s still some wisdom left in you after all." Zhenyu stated.

The Grand Elder’s mouth twitched.

The Clarity Peak Head, who had remained quiet during their exchange, finally spoke. "I shall assist as well."

Both men turned toward her.

The woman continued, "Clarity Peak possesses several methods suitable for examining restrictions, detecting concealed energy fluctuations, and identifying alterations to formation structures. If the Vault Division has been manipulating records or accessing restricted areas, I may be able to discover traces of their activities."

Lin Mu found her offer particularly welcome.

The Clarity Peak Head was a Transcendent Immortal with considerable authority of her own. Her expertise could prove valuable, especially if the conspirators had employed sophisticated concealment formations.

Zhenyu nodded approvingly. "Good initiative, little girl."

The Clarity Peak Head visibly winced.

For a moment, her expression suggested that she was seriously considering whether helping this ancient body cultivator was worth the trouble. She had spent thousands of years cultivating, eventually rising to become the Head of one of the Heavenly Stream Guardian Sect’s most prestigious Peaks.

Throughout that time, countless disciples and elders had addressed her with respect. Even other Peak Heads generally treated her as an equal. Yet Mengli Zhenyu had repeatedly called her a little girl, seemingly without the slightest concern for her status.

Unfortunately, his supposed age made it difficult for her to argue.

"Thank you for your praise, Senior," she eventually answered through slightly tightened lips.

Zhenyu gave a satisfied nod. "Good. At least you know how to accept a compliment."

The Grand Elder looked away.

He had a feeling that the Clarity Peak Head might regret volunteering before the investigation was over. Lin Mu, meanwhile, turned his attention toward the figures visible beyond the Clarity Reversal Bead.

Although those outside could neither see nor hear what was happening within the barrier, the three cultivators inside could observe them perfectly.

Daoist Bone Ruler was standing near the Law Division elders, occasionally speaking with them. The Sword Peak Head remained nearby, his expression stern as he watched the opaque sphere.

High Elder Shatter Peak and High Elder Palm Saber were conversing with the other Wild Peak elders, though their attention frequently returned to the barrier as well.

Zhenyu stroked his beard. "There are still two people we should bring into this."

The Grand Elder followed his gaze. "Daoist Bone Ruler and the Sword Peak Head?"

"Exactly." Zhenyu nodded. "Bone boy is already involved in Little Bull’s case, and he has enough authority to make the Law Division cooperate. As for that sword-waving child, having him on our side would make things considerably easier."

The Grand Elder considered the suggestion.

"Daoist Bone Ruler should present little difficulty. He has already examined the evidence against Taegong and promised to investigate the matter. His sense of duty is exceptionally strong, and he will cooperate if he believes the sect is facing a genuine threat."

Zhenyu snorted. "His sense of duty is strong enough to give everyone around him a headache."

The Grand Elder almost smiled. "That may be true, Senior. However, it also makes him dependable."

"Fine. What about the sword child?" Lin Mu asked next.

The Grand Elder’s expression became slightly troubled. "The Sword Peak Head is somewhat more difficult. He is exceptionally talented and possesses a strong sense of loyalty toward the sect, but his temperament can be rather headstrong."

Zhenyu raised an eyebrow. "Rather?"

The Grand Elder cleared his throat. "He can be difficult to persuade once he has formed an opinion."

Zhenyu chuckled. "I noticed."

The Clarity Peak Head suddenly spoke. "I shall handle him."

The Grand Elder turned toward her. "You will?"

"Yes." Her expression remained composed. "He still owes me a couple of favors."

Zhenyu looked interested. "Oh?"

The Clarity Peak Head continued, "I believe I can convince him to cooperate without revealing more than necessary."

The Grand Elder nodded. "Very well. I shall leave that matter to you."

Zhenyu stroked his beard thoughtfully. He was curious about what sort of favors the Sword Peak Head owed her, though he decided against asking. There would be plenty of opportunities to discover that later.

For now, the important thing was that the three major experts were willing to cooperate.

"Good. Then that’s settled." Zhenyu spoke.

The Grand Elder nodded. "Indeed."

Zhenyu suddenly raised a finger. "One more thing."

The two looked toward him.

"The secrets concerning the Hopeful Star Pavilion and the Lightless Hall," Zhenyu said. "I’ll keep them to myself for now."

The Grand Elder’s expression changed and even the Clarity Peak Head also looked surprised.

Zhenyu continued, "If we start spreading those old stories throughout the sect, every descendant of those fellows will become suspicious. Some might panic, while others might warn their relatives and associates."

He gave a cold chuckle. "And if there really is another nest of rats hiding somewhere, I don’t want to scatter the entire nest before we’ve caught anything."

The Grand Elder visibly relaxed. "Senior’s consideration is appreciated."

The Clarity Peak Head nodded. "Indeed. Revealing those matters prematurely could create considerable unrest."

Zhenyu waved his hand dismissively. "Don’t thank me. I still think the sect should eventually learn what happened. But there’s a proper time for everything."

The Grand Elder’s expression grew thoughtful. He had initially regarded Mengli Zhenyu as an uncontrollable ancient body cultivator whose arrogance could cause endless trouble.

Yet the more they spoke, the more he realized that the man possessed considerable political awareness. He knew when to apply pressure, when to retreat, and how to use information to influence others.

’Perhaps this is how he survived for so long despite offending so many people,’ the Grand Elder thought.

Of course, there was another possibility.

Perhaps the man had simply been powerful enough that nobody could do anything about his behavior. Considering what Daoist Bone Ruler had experienced earlier, that explanation seemed equally plausible.
