Chapter 2093: We Need More Help
"That’s all of them."
Void said after Grey killed the last Necromancer present in the hideout.
Grey nodded to Void’s words before taking the rings of all those present. Most hideouts like these usually hold a lot of resources, this was something Grey learned after attacking a few hideouts.
A few minutes later, Grey went over to Cory who was waiting by the side.
"Done?" Asked Cory.
Grey nodded and said, "Teacher should be returning anytime soon, let’s go wait for him."
Cory had no problems with this, following Grey back to the opening into the tunnel. They soon arrived at the underground cave, and contrary to their expectations, Grey’s Teacher was not back yet.
The humans at the cave were familiar with Grey’s clothing, so when they saw him return, they did not panic. Grey was wearing another mask. It was of the same design as the previous one, so it was impossible for the humans to see his true appearance.
Time went by and it was after two more hours did Grey’s Teacher return. He came back with two Fourth stage Sovereigns who were going to escort the rescued humans back to their fort before sending them off.
As they watched the group leave, Chris turned to Grey and asked, "Did you find anything interesting?"
"Not precisely." Grey shook his head. Although the old Gnome could be considered special, it was not the first time Grey was facing a Gnome like that, he was already aware of the existence of such Gnomes, so he did not see anything special about them.
Chris nodded before the group headed for where Brown and Eisendrache were waiting. They hopped on the duo and charged straight for True Dawn.
....
Early the next morning.
Grey, his Teacher, and Cory arrived at the entrance to True Dawn. It was a place that was not too far from the current limit of the Gnomes’ territory. The location of the entrance was previously located in the magical beasts’ forest, after most of the forest had been occupied by the Gnomes, those from True Dawn moved the entrance.
The entrance was now located in a hidden cave in a small forest. The place could barely even pass for a forest due to its size.
Chris noticed Grey’s skepticism when they arrived at the place and explained, "After the last attack when they took Brown and that bastard, we decided to move the entrance. To be honest, that was not the first time we faced their attack, it was just that they did not really put too much effort into the previous attacks."
Grey nodded to Chris’s words.
Chris did not explain further, making some hand seals, a lady appeared along with the portal.
"Huh?" Grey took a glance at the lady, feeling she was a little strange. This was not the first time he saw her, and just like the previous times, she had always looked at him with a sense of familiarity that he found very odd.
The lady only gave him a short gaze this time before turning to Chris and Cory, "You didn’t mention bringing her too."
"Sorry elder sister, it’s just that she and the Dragon are partners and she didn’t want to see him leave without her." Chris explained politely.
The lady looked at Cory, and then at Grey before scoffing and disappearing.
Chris chuckled awkwardly and explained to Cory, "Don’t worry about my elder sister, she puts up a cold front due to how soft she is."
Cory was naturally not expecting these people to accept her, hence she was not bothered.
Her unbothered reaction pleased Chris who turned to Grey. Seeing that Grey was also not bothered by her reaction, he did not try to speak any further with Grey. He left with Cory, Brown, and Eisendrache after bidding farewell to Grey.
Grey watched the portal close up fully before he left the area. He ensured his aura was sealed so as not to attract any unwanted attention. After all, it was clear that True Dawn wanted to stay hidden.
A few minutes later, Grey stopped at a random mountain top and brought out his map.
Void and the bunny leader appeared beside him at this moment.
"Where are we headed to?" Void asked.
"Father mentioned a troop needing assistance, so we’ll head there." Grey replied, he paused for some time before adding, "It’s a two day trip from here."
The bunny leader and Void had no problems with the distance since it did not bother them much.
Grey flew into the sky and soon disappeared from view.
....
Two days later.
In a region at the eastern part of the Azure Continent.
A city a few square kilometers was being bombarded by attacks.
In the center of the city, a lone elegant building could be seen. It used to be the Mayor’s manor, but now it was the residence of the general present here. Most of the citizens of this city were hiding close to the center of the town.
The Mayor’s manor.
A young man dressed in military uniform hurriedly knocked on the door from outside a room.
"Come in."
A deep voice from inside the room replied.
The young man cautiously opened the door and stepped inside, looking at the figure that was hidden by the darkness, he reported, "Sir, the northern army are losing more people and are asking to retreat, what order should I send back?"
"If they know they can’t protect this place, then what use are their lives?" The voice from inside the room replied.
"Sir, a Peak Sovereign appeared there, and there is no one who can match that expert." The young man responded.
The figure who owned the voice paused for a second, "Oh, they have finally sent out their Peak Sovereigns."
"Yes sir." The young man reported.
The figure stood up from the bed he was lying in and his face came to view, he looked no older than someone in Grey’s age. With a frown he asked, "Then why didn’t you say so?"
The general walked out from his room and placed his hands on the shoulder of the young man who came to report the situation to him, without letting him respond to his first question he asked, "So how long has it been since the Peak Sovereign appeared?"
"Last night, general." The young man replied hesitantly.
"What? Last night?!" The general asked in shock as they arrived at the end of the corridor, before leading the young man to the main hall.
The young man followed, and only replied after they got to the main hall which was not far away.
"Yes, general." The young man said, after watching the general take a seat he continued, "We wanted to report the matter to you at the time, but you told us not to disturb you."
When the general heard this, he coughed awkwardly repeatedly before asking, "What’s the situation now?"
"They still need help on the northern front, it’s just that the eastern army also requested help." The young man replied with a voice so low one would think he was a mosquito.
"The eastern army too?" The general asked, pausing, he asked sarcastically, "Surely they do not have a Peak Sovereign problem too right?"
The general froze when he saw the young man’s reaction to his question. Even before the young man could say a word, he already knew what the answer was.
"You’ve got to be joking." He blurted out unconsciously.
"No, general. The two Peak Sovereigns only made one appearance since yesterday." The young man replied.
"And you’re sure they’re not the same?"
"Positive. We were able to distinguish them, and actually, to be extra sure, we even sent a Ninth stage Sovereign to confirm." The young man said in a low voice.
"And?"
"They both returned seriously injured. From their injuries we could tell the Peak Sovereigns did not want to kill them, at least not yet." The young man relayed what he thought about the situation to the general.
The general clenched his fist when he heard this. Due to how many frontiers there were, there was a limit to the number of Peak Sovereigns that could be at certain frontiers at a given moment. His current region could not be regarded as a place too close to the main battlefield, but it was still only a few days’ journey away and the Gnomes have been attacking repeatedly.
Never did he think the Gnomes would send more than one Peak Sovereign to this place. It had been a few months and there had only been one Peak Sovereign Gnome active here.
"The request for help I told you to send to the commander earlier, did you?" The general asked.
"Yes, but that was when the situation was still within what we are aware of. From how silently these Peak Sovereigns appeared, there’s no certainty if there’s only two or more." The young man replied.
