They gained access to his mind and harvested some of his memories when he died, so they know how to operate the arrays, check them for faults, and put them in maximum security mode to completely seal the mansion from entry and exit of any kind.

Plus the web that they put outside of the mansion has not been disturbed. So they felt comfortable advancing to rank 8 right here in his house.

After they put the arrays in maximum security mode and sealed it completely, they began assimilating the rank 8 divine flesh.

When they were done, the eight divine flesh of the pathway of undying within him awakened by siphoning their spiritual energy. Then the eight of them recognized Legion as their progenitor and became dormant again instead of rebelling.

With this done, Legion got to work eating the corpse of the undying godclad. They did this in order to acquire some of his qualifications to be an angel.

In order for undying godclads to become angels of the undying, they must meet two requirements. The first is that they must be at least 10,000 years old. The second requirement is that they must be one of the three oldest undying godclads in existence.

Only the most ancient undying godclads who have survived for the longest time are worthy of becoming angels of undying and have a chance of becoming the god of undying.

So age, specifically, an old age, is the qualification needed to become an angel of undying. The alternative is to kill older undying and eat them to acquire their qualifications.

Undying godclads rarely use this alternative, though. In fact, some of them don't even consider it because they are the least likely path to kill another undying godclad.

It is already difficult and maybe impossible for other pathways to kill the godclads of the pathway of undying. Even the pathway of killing finds it incredibly difficult to kill an undying godclad. So it will be nearly impossible for undying godclads to kill each other.

The best that demigod undying godclads can do is hire many people to gang up on their peers to kill them. But this will become less feasible if the demigod buys a lot of powerful arrays and uses them to protect himself.

It is this need to protect himself from the greed of other undying demigods that made this demigod buy so many arrays. If every demigod undying behaves like him, it can be guessed that the alternative to acquiring the qualifications to become an angel is mostly useless.
