Kent and the twins continue to fly toward the Dark City in complete silence.
After learning about the current nature of the upside-down underworld forest, Kent started thinking about a lot of things.
'From what Ryan and Ryen said, the forest fell 500,000 years ago. If the Void Beasts were indeed responsible, then it isn't long enough for the Void Temple to open just yet.
It usually takes a million years to cause some needed destruction'
Kent hadn't yet recovered his memories of Chaos to the point where he should know about the Void Beasts and the language they speak.
However, the moment he heard the word Zhaeryn, it was like a dam had opened in his mind, pouring out what he needed to know.
In those memories, he knew that before the Void Beasts arrived during the primordial Era, they sent their temples. These temples come with five temple masters who are bona fide Void Beasts.
The average cultivator stood no chance against them. It took a lot of deaths to see the danger they were dealing with, finally.
But nature isn't too cruel. Despite their horror, they would be chained to the temple for 1 million years. However, that is also what makes them dangerous.
The longer they remained within the temple, the more corrupted Void Energy they exuded.
This energy then affects those closer to them. In this case, the beasts within the upside-down underworld forest become the first contact with their corrupted void energy.
They will mutate into beings that even gods will fear.
But it goes beyond that. In fact, if the temple remained unconquered for long, the mutation would spread to the entire planet and soon extend beyond it, going as far as a whole star system.
It had been 500,000 years since the void temple descended, causing the upside-down underworld forest to fall. In Kent's mind, that is too short for the entire forest to be consumed.
However, he must destroy the void temple at all costs, since the longer it remains unconquered, the greater the risk of the entire planet being affected.
Also, it had been a long time since he dealt with the void beast, so just like how the universe grew and adapted, he knew the Void Beasts also would have long evolved, adapted and undergone so many changes.
'Thank the gods they didn't send more immortals into the forest when it fell.' Kent visibly seems pleased with that. Only 20 immortals entered, and only one returned.
That is indeed good, considering that the stronger beings the void beasts consume, the stronger they become. It was why, during the Primordial Era, many powerhouses fell.
The moment a great warrior falls, the void beasts consume them to become even more powerful. So the fact that the forest was sealed instead of sending more immortals into it was a good move.
'I need to take care of it before it grows unchecked.' Kent sighs and turns to look at the two siblings and asks,
"You said your parents and siblings are held captive, right?" They nodded.
"Good. Take me directly to the mansion of the Dark Lord. I need to blow off some steam." Before, he was concerned about his mission and the reason for coming to Bayla, but now he is just too angry.
The Dark Warden family may just become his punching bags for the time being.
The twins said nothing, but they nodded to his words and continued flying behind him. Kent didn't mind them again and just continued to fly in the direction of the Dark City.
Suddenly, his vision darkened, and before he could do anything, he found himself standing on the shore of a beautiful blue sea.
He had been here before, so the moment he appeared, he turned to his left.
There, he saw the same bald man he talked to before.
"Lord Karma," Kent greeted, walking toward the bald man. He is indeed Karma, the one who determines who is worthy to receive good karma or who is unfortunate to have bad karma.
"We meet again," Karma turned and looked at Kent with a wicked smile. "How has life been treating you lately?"
"Better than I had hoped," Kent replied, sensing a tension in the air. From the way Karma smiled and the tone he used when asking the question, Kent sensed he wasn't pleased with him for some reason.
"Good to hear that." Karma grinned and asked a question that made Kent furrow his brow.
"So you heard the Void Beasts are back, right?"
Kent hesitated but answered... "I did. Is that why Lord Karma had summoned me here?"
"Unfortunately, yes. I was forced into summoning you ahead of time." He stood up and moved toward Kent... "I had big plans for you in our five-year appointment, but I was forced to make some modifications."
"So this is about the Void Temple."
"But of course. You see, to save this galaxy, you must venture into the Void Temple and defeat the five temple masters. However, that will depend on your strength since they have, in a way, evolved over the years."
"How so?" Kent asked, sensing something bad...
"Where is the fun in that when you will be finding out soon enough?" Karma smirked and walked past Kent. He moved toward a table, picked a yellow-looking fruit, and bit into it.
"I only called you here to inform you that if you manage to defeat the Void Temple, all the karma you owe me will be cleared.
But know that there is no way I would ever compromise again if the same thing happened. This is me bending the rules for you, so be grateful."
Kent nodded, but he knew there was something important Karma wasn't saying. Even so, he said nothing and only nodded to his words.
As he said, he would find out soon enough.
"That would be all. Good luck, and may you have all the success," Karma said with a chuckle, sending Kent away. Once he left, the smile on his face vanished.
He turned to his left and spoke coldly... "This is the least I can do for him. The rest depends on him and his will to prevent a calamity. What follows after that, please don't include me.
I am Karma. My role is to judge good and evil and assign karma. If I start taking sides, the fabric of the universe will shatter faster than we all hoped."
Fate appeared with a gleeful smile... "No need to feel sour, Karma. At the end of the day, we both know we will need him, so why don't you let old grievances pass?" Fate smokes his pipe and walks closer to Karma.
"So what if he cheated Karma... even if he did it 13 times. The point is, he is daring enough to attempt it, so maybe let him have this, and hopefully, one day he will return all he owes you."
Fate repeated nothing. He just walked away, leaving Karma with a lot to think about.
Nobody had ever cheated Karma. In fact, nobody dared attempt it; however, Kent did so 13 times. So his grievances wouldn't just end like that.
But Fate is also right. Kent is essential to the universe, so he should cut him some slack.
"I mean, if you weren't a sour loser, he wouldn't have defeated you in your own game." Suddenly, Destiny's cheeky voice entered Karma's head, causing the bald fellow to grit his teeth.
However, in order not to entertain Destiny, he chose to ignore her.
"Tsk, what a loser."
