Hazen came with expectations, aiming to wipe the shame and humiliation he was put through days ago when Ryan and Ryen trashed him.
It had only been a week, but the humiliation he was put through still stung like a bee.
He is the youngest son of the Dark Lord.
This means he had the fame and authority to do anything he wanted without anyone saying shit. He had run rampant, caused so much pain, and each time, he walked away without any opposition.
However, the moment he set his sights on Ryan and Ryen's baby sister, who had recently turned 16, those privileges and power were taken away.
Ryan and Ryen did a number on him, causing their entire family to be taken with the intent of executing them to set an example. However, to their shock, the Shadow General who had arrested them proposed a way for them to regain their freedom.
And to their luck, the Dark Lord accepted that proposal, with ill intent, of course.
Naturally, that didn't sit well with Hazen. So he set it up so that if Ryan and Ryen somehow return, they should be stopped, and he would be informed first.
Because of this, he left his grand mansion and came to lodge much closer to the gate with the twelve Shadow Emperors, waiting for them.
However, just when his revenge was within reach, someone else came and destroyed everything. Now, he couldn't even speak, considering his neck was held firmly in place.
On the ground, the first eight guards had turned to jelly, all their bones broken. Kent didn't show them any mercy despite them merely following orders.
They, after all, knew what had happened between the twins and Hazen, yet they chose to block them, knowing the longer they remain on the outside, the closer their family comes to death.
One can argue that they had no say in anything since the order was given to them by Hazen, son of the Dark Lord. So when ordered, they can only obey.
However, at the end of the day, it is all about perspective. Kent saw them as nuisances and ass-lickers and punished them for it.
Now, he had his hands on Hazen, and all everyone could do was stand there, jaws hanging loose as they gazed at this shocking sight.
Kent didn't immediately address Hazen; he turned toward the city gate, his gaze piercing deep into its walls.
"I know you can see me and are already planning an attack, so why don't you make yourself known to us all before I kill your son?"
For a moment, nothing happened, leaving everybody wondering just what Kent meant by what he said. Soon, however, they realised what he meant.
A shadow portal opened in the air, and five people walked out. The moment everyone's eyes landed on the man in the middle, they bowed toward him.
"Greetings, Dark Lord."
The man who arrived was indeed the Dark Lord. Leader of the Dark Assassin Tower, formally the Dark Warden family. He is a tall, thick man with sharp eyebrows, a curious gaze, and a relaxed demeanour.
In all of Planet Bayla, he is the only Shadow Legend. Just like how a Sword Legend is the highest a mortal could reach in a High World, the Assassin profession also has a limit of a Shadow Legend.
The four beside him are all Shadow Divine. So naturally, he demanded respect.
The mere fact that he made an appearance here shows the nature of things currently happening at the gate.
"Young man, can I know why you have my son hanging by the neck?" the Dark Lord asked, looking coldly at Kent.
For as long as he could remember, nobody dared be arrogant in his presence. However, Kent not only didn't give him any face but also dared to keep his son in a chokehold.
"I think you and I both know why. The question is, what are you going to do about it?"
Many gasped, but Kent had no plans on minding them. His focus was on what the Dark Lord would do.
If he acts aggressively, he will follow up with what he wanted to do. If he turns out to be reasonable, he will also act more calmly.
Either way, Kent plans to act, but he also doesn't want to be aggressive without seeing the kind of leadership the Dark City has now.
As expected, the Dark Lord frowned, focusing his energy into his palm. Kent saw this and smiled.
"So you choose violence, huh, as expected from the father of a scum." Kent tightened his hold on Hazen's neck and glared hatefully at the Dark Lord.
The colour on Hazen's face started to drain.
However, before he could finish him off, another shadow portal opened, and a man with no aura at all walked out.
When Kent saw him, his brow raised.
Even the Dark Lord and his four guards turned respectful, and the attack they were building up dispersed. It seems even the Dark Lord had to be respectful toward this person.
The man ignored them and focused on Kent.
"Young man, why don't we take a step back and handle things more calmly?" Even his tone is calm and wiser.
Kent nodded and let go of Hazen. However, an invisible force held him in place. With just a thought, he would shatter his body and turn him into meat paste.
Seeing this, the man smiled... "My name is Adin Mattew, current leader of the Midnight Shadows in the Lanna Star System... May I know who you are?"
Kent smiled inwardly.
It wasn't that he recognised Adin from his memories that made him soften up when he spoke. It was just that while his aura is basically nonexistent, Kent saw it and immediately recognised him as from the Midnight Shadows.
Faceless, his past incarnation, had created the technique he used to hide his aura, so he saw through him at a glance.
But even without him recognising the technique, the Tower would have picked up on Adin's identity.
Now hearing him reveal his own hidden identity for all without fear, Kent could only applaud his bravery.
He let a smile appear on his lips. He is proud to see his legacy still alive and, from the look of things, even stronger than before.
From the memories he had recovered so far, the few assassins he had accepted into the Midnight Shadows had all received the modified version of the Faceless Art. But that wasn't the only technique he gave them.
He made sure they had several other techniques that an assassin of their calibre should have. He didn't want them to fall short when on missions.
So while he didn't know how many techniques he had given them since he had no idea how much of his memories he had left, he recognised the [Shadow Clothe] technique at a glance.
"I have heard many stories about the legendary Midnight Shadows. Who would have thought I would be meeting one of them in the flesh?" Kent said with a smile, then he introduced himself.
"I am no one special, considering I am a rogue cultivator, but you can call me Kent Madson... Pleasure meeting you, Adin Mattew."
