Two years passed, Ved had just turned 120, in the past two years the black winter as it was called had claimed over 80 percent of the worlds population.
A staggering number of deaths, however trade between the two races continued. Ved purchased 5 flying ships from the humans.
They cost him a lot but it was worth it. It made travel easier and faster. Even though it wasn't enough to save everybody, his resources kept s lot of humans alive.
Because of that he learnt most of the human population were very grateful to him. This brought the two races closer.
Things stabilized for a few months. Then another year later things changed, in the snow came out tiny creatures.
They looked like leaches with very sharp teeth. Their teeth were so strong they could eat through anything.
Which was the problem, they ate the walls of houses, before anybody could react thousands were already dead.
These things managed to eat through the world barrier which wasn't even supposed to be tangible.
A barrier of space and they are it, Ved and the others reacted quickly and burnt away the snow killing those things.
However their numbers were too vast, his blue flames covered the entire sea in his world.
He could hear their painful screeches yet not one of them tried to stop. They kept lunging like mindless zombies.
' Zombies.' he realised a bit too late, suddenly decomposing corpses followed behind the flood of leeches.
Those corpses were being controlled by the leeches. The fight grew more dangerous. The zombies used their bodies to protect the leeches and the now.
It seemed they were smart too, they realised Ved posed the highest danger to them so they tried to take him out first.
But how could his people allow that to happen, even if he was stronger than them he was still their king.
They threw themselves at the army of corpses and leeches to protect him. Ved didn't need their help of course.
He fought off thousands of enemies by himself and he was not at a disadvantage at all.
The fight lasted an entire day, the army of corpses and leeches that seemed endless finally ended.
After studying a few of the leeches they caught, they learnt the snow leeches can't survive for long away from the snow unless they take over a corpse.
However there was more bad news, the 80 percent of the population that died in the past two years showed up once more but they were not alone.
With them came back these long dead, everybody that was buried and still had their bones intact came back.
Considering how strong the bones of awakened beasts and vessel holders were, very few had decayed to the point they can't be used by the leeches.
Even worst news came, the walking corpses that were killed were taken over by new leeches and went back to the fight.
Everybody feared the snow and feared dying even more. An idea to cremate the dead was proposed and to also burn away all of the snow.
Everybody did their best to burn away the snow but it was falling harder like hail, piling back up the moment they burn it.
The denizens of earth grew desperate, the feeling of despair and mourning covered the entire world.
Even in his minor world things weren't looking good. The hole in the world barrier created by the leeches refused to close.
Through it the dark particles came in like a flood. Snow started falling here as well. Fortunately their reaction was fast.
Only a few died before the snow and the snow leeches were contained, the dead were cremated immediately after. However Ved knew this couldn't last.
He will have to find a way to stop it permanently and the only way he can think of is by killing the child of the herald of plagues.
" There are two." He heard Manas say. ' What?' " There are two children of the herald of plagues now.
The first was the bringer of doom, the new one is the child of winter. There is another to come so be prepared."
He nodded, it seemed each disaster came with a child of it own however none of it mattered.
He will kill all of them if he have to without a second thought. Then he sent two more avatars out.
One was already out in the world, with the other two they could cover more ground. They searched the conors of the world.
During their search they had to rescue a lot of people, especially humans and lead them to the nearest settlement.
On top of fighting endless armies of the undead that seemed to be able to smell where the living were, this took a lot of his time delaying him greatly.
One of his avatars was flying above Africa, he had just finished fighting a massive flock of undead birds.
Strangely the flock was made of different bird species that would normally not interact unless to eat each other but this had become common now.
As he was flying, a bit tired from the fight the temperature suddenly changed. It grew colder, much much colder.
He looked around and realised the snow was no longer black but pure white. ' Naledi.' he knew this snow was caused by her.
He flew down and his feet sunk into the snow covering the land. He walked forward like a massive black hill.
A few hundred metres into the snow storm he saw her. She was sitting down humming a soft tune.
Her voice was as beautiful as always like the melody of the most divine angels, enchanting like a Syren's voice. It made the snow dance and the world sang along with her.
However what caught his attention was what she had on her lap. She was gently stroking a white furry creature.
It was a snow fox, a young snow fox. He felt a terrifying aura from the fox and he knew immediately it was the child of winter.
" He's so cold and lonely, can you hear him my love, crying and begging for help." She raised her head and looked at him with sad eyes.
