Chapter 97: Scaling the Walls

The morning had come, Kurt, Talia, Hank, and Tom, plus Harvey, were waiting for the blast to come from the other side. They had decided to wait for a minute or two after and see if they could get the guards to look the wrong way for enough time to get over. Kurt was going to be the fastest. They had to be ready but not look like it, as if they were just another of the hundreds of people surrounding the city, and not a strike force.

They waited until after the sun had fully risen. And at a random moment in the morning it began.

BOOOM! The sound echoed in the distance.

BOOOOOOM! The sound cracked the air.

There was the start of a pillar of black smoke coming from the distance. The wall was going to start falling. After a few more sounds coming from the distance one seemed to end with a crash, it must have been the one that took it down, as there was only one more after it.

The guards at the top of the walls had all turned and started to shout. Moving from one point to another. Leaving a minimal staff near where Kurt was standing.

"It's time!"

Hank grabbed Kurt's back and and Kurt made a giant leap towards the wall, falling near to it. Once there he made a large jump up and made his way on to the top of the wall. Hank jumped off his back and took out his Khopesh sword, and Kurt drew his own. They turned in opposite directions. And ran to the guard on both sides of them. There was only one each. Harvey began to screech from his robe's pockets.

As he rushed the guard he saw something from his peripheral vision, it started small but seemed to get larger. Still with some space between him and the guards they both turned to see it. That rock was growing bigger as it tore through the air at high speed, directly at the guard. Before he could move out of the way the guard was hit and knocked off the wall. Kurt could only look to see where it had come from.

A platform was slowly rising with Talia, swinging a sling around her ready to fire. Apparently using her magic with a sling made surprisingly strong attacks. She blew a kiss to Kurt. Who smiled back.

They were all able to meet up on top of the wall.

"Umm thanks for the support," said Kurt.

"Don't worry about anything like that, I'm here," said Talia. "I don't want a scar on that pretty face of yours." Talia actually seemed to be in a good mood, she had basically just killed a guard as well, the man hadn't moved since he fell from the wall.

"So what now?" said Tom.

"Well I can lower us down, I couldn't pick us all up but I can definitely make a slow fall to the ground with some effort."

"I can land without it if that's easier."

"Alright."

They had made their way down, this side of the town seemed to have been rushing towards where the explosions had happened. They basically had made it down to the city without being seen by anyone that was still alive. It was clean, as clean as a murderous strike team can be.

Tom had decided to take to the roofs to give him a good vantage point, Hank and him had some whistle sounds they could make basic communication for as well. They began going towards Arthur's place, trying to be careful, but fast. They had heard a few bird sounds and Hank told them to take cover, a crew of fire clan members soon passed by, but didn't see them from their cover.

Though the real battle was on the other side of the city, the confusion and sounds of battle still rang through the air. It seemed most of the town had decided to stay behind closed doors, probably trying to hide until whoever won, won.

Making their way through the street they were stuck behind a few guards, Hank lifted his hand. Turned with a wicked smile. And one of the three guards fell to an arrow that seemed to appear from nowhere, and knocked the man off his feet. Hank made a mad dash toward them as they looked at the man who fell. As they turned Hank made a swing with his sword slicing the one of them right through his chest, then made a stab at his skull, the last man was struck by one of Kurt's crescent wave blasts, and Hank kicked his head after fell.

The encounter was quick, and seemingly done as professional as anyone could expect. They had managed to get the drop on the guards and act quickly enough to let them fall. Kurt had been pushing out all the death that was quickly occurring around him. He tried to focus on keeping a steady breath. Talia seemed as relaxed as ever. How many times had she done something like this?

They had made quick progress through the streets and made it to Arthur's place quickly after that strike. His two two houses seemed to be just like Kurt remembered it, no guards were visible. The surrounding houses seemed to be locked inside as well. The battle in the distance still came through the air.

"I'll go in alone," said Kurt, "so not shock them too bad. Tom should keep watch on top and you two stay near the door and be ready."

Kurt made his way to the door with them, he took the door handle. And surprisingly the door was actually unlocked. He stepped through the threshold. And saw an empty house.

"Sara. Laura, are you here?" Kurt said loudly.

He heard a rumbling from upstairs and Sara had rushed down and stared at Kurt with wide eyes.

"Thank the God's you're alright," said Kurt, "is Laura here?"

"You damn idiot Kurt, they were expecting you! The whole place is surrounded, they are in all the surrounding buildings. You walked right into their trap."
