The main problem with their escape was they couldn't hide themselves anymore, more specifically they couldn't hide Harvey, he wasn't fitting into any pockets anymore, the growth of his third head really did a number, he was the size of a large dog now, taller if his head were fully up, which was rare, making him seem longer than taller, as the neck were elongated like a snake which the head resembled, but they had a flap they could out stretch as a wide collar. Harvey had a scaled body with four legs and tail. There wasn't a way to make the running lizard invisible to the armies anymore, especially the closer they got.
"What the hell is that?" said one soldier.
"Don't worry about it," said Talia. But the man stayed on a fighting stance at Harvey.
"Harvey," said Kurt, "stop it," and the Hydra came next to Kurt. Figuring out he could just climb up his shoulder anymore.
"So, you're Valentine, not fire clan?"
"Yes," said Talia, "and we just made a way for you all to go in. I suggest you take it."
The man still eyeing Harvey, waved his hand to call his troops further, "this is definitely going to be reported. As well as that funny looking man there," he said pointing at Hank. "But I am not going to punch a gift…whatever that is… in any of its mouths."
Many of the other soldiers passing by were also giving Harvey strange looks with him. They discussed where to take him, and they decided to move quickly in the chaos toward the mountains, Kurt had nudged that decision a little thinking he and Harvey could get to Paul's well, which the other didn't know about. There was forest in the direction and once they got in far enough to hide Harvey.
"Okay, first what the hell is that thing," said Laura, "and how are any of these goblins even here? And can you actually understand them?" Laura had never been subject to the translation spell, so to her the goblins would sound like unintelligible grunts.
"I have a couple questions about that as well," said Talia.
Harvey had his middle head starting to try to nuzzle Kurt's, and he pushed it away, "it's just Harvey."
"Just Harvey?"
"He was like this big when I got him," said Kurt, and put his fingers in a wide pinch.
"And how did they get here? The goblins the creatures from the other side. Only non-living things can be brought through the gate. You can crush up a flower, but the flower itself can't pass through."
"We found a way, it's a long story."
"Kurt, what have you done, where are Arthur and Jacob?"
"We are taking you to them," said Kurt.
"So this is how the fire clan falls, a couple of kids, that I practically raised," said Laura, eyeing both Kurt and Sara. "What did we ever do to you? I knew some of those people Kurt! The ones you…you."
"Do you want to go back?" said Talia. Waving her hand back the way they came. "You never raised me, I'm not even invested in you. It was Lord Kurt who insisted on keeping you safe. And those people were attacking him, we didn't seek them out. We could have just grabbed Sara and left if they let us. I didn't see very much concern on their faces for your safety."
"Lord Kurt," scoffed Laura, "of where? Does your mother even know?" Kurt's mom was probably completely unaware of everything. "Don't talk down to me, little missy!"
"It's Countess Talia of the Valentine Clan, or my lady to you!"
"You'll see soon enough of where Laura" said Kurt, "so I'm going to take Harvey a different way back, you all should escort Mrs. Fallon back to the carriage and gate. I'll meet you there." Kurt turned and made an annoyed hand motion at Sara, "Did you not explain anything to her? Sara."
"We were being watched! And she would have told them everything!"
"I go with master, master!" Harvey's middle, third head spoke, wagging his tail.
"Ohh god, it talks?" said Sara.
"You understood that screeching?" said Laura.
"Umm, first words," said Kurt.
Apparently Kurt was going to have several conversations once he got back, but hopefully Arthur could explain everything to Laura. And they would have to make a decision to stay or go.
Kurt started talking with Harvey with him to Paul's well, it seemed to have the intellect of a toddler, and the demeanor of a trained animal. Harvey had a limited vocabulary, and didn't always understand what Lurt was talking about. But followed simple commands with earnest joy. So conversations were mostly face level, about what was in front of them. He had tried to get him to call him Kurt, but it didn't seem to click, 'master is master' he would say.
Harvey was easily capable of digging into the rock face of the mountains, and Kurt could jump with his water book. The journey to the well took a few hours but that simply was the distance from the location.
"Pretty fairy!" said Harvey.
"Ohh look it's gotten pretty big, you know a fourth head and you'd be a fine guardian."
"Harvey, strong!" And Harvey made a water flame.
"So, how are you, Lord Kurt? I wasn't expecting you two."
"I'm good, I wasn't expecting to come, it was the growth spurt."
"Ahh, I see it's much harder to hide in your cape." said Paul. Harvey had wandered further into the cave, becoming a bit out of sight at times.
"Basically, I'll head back this way with him, which seems the easiest option."
"Anytime, my lord, my well is at your service," said Paul, taking a bow.
"Thank you. Now where did he run off too."
Kurt came into the inner part of the cavern and Harvey was lapping up some of the well water. Ohh no what was he going to do now? Harvey's middle head which was doing the drinking eyes started to glow a bit and then went down. Was that good?
"What are you doing?"
"Me see things, you see things!" said Harvey.
Not very helpful. But Kurt didn't want to waste anymore time. And gave Harvey a grab and slipped with him back to Layla's throne room.
Harvey ran around playfully, "Home home!"
"Go on get up stairs," said Kurt, pointing towards the stairs, "go to bed. I'll be there soon"
"Yes master," said Harvey as he scurried toward the stairway.
"Well, that's quite a difference, did something go wrong?" Layla said, from behind him.
"He's sort of in trouble, I don't know, he snuck in."
"And Dakota Spring?"
"I would say it is well on its way to have fallen completely. The rest should come back through the gate some time soon."
"Dutchess Sara and Laura?"
"All safe and accounted for."
"Well, then congratulations sir Kurt, it seems your mission was accomplished."
