"Did I just witness a murder?" Leo mumbled, his lips twitching fiercely. "These crazy people!"
Leo wasn't the only one who was stunned. Even the guests were looking in disbelief. Some were even wondering if this was part of the demonstration or if there was truly an accident.
Many guests had started whispering amongst themselves.
"I'll take him to the hospital..." Lightning stood up to go and help Picollo. He had just been discharged from the hospital after being bedridden for weeks.
"Don't interfere..." Blaze held Lightning's hand, his eyes seeing through the dust. "He is fine."
"He is fine? How can that be possible? Even I would be injured if I took that attack head-on. Not everyone has a passive defense like yours."
"Even I find it hard to believe. But I can see it. He is fine. Although his shoulder was dislocated from the impact, it has nothing to do with the attack."
Blaze pulled Lightning back, making him sit back down.
"I'm sorry! I got nervous and shot early!" Yelina ran to Picollo as the dust on the stage started to settle.
Picollo was slightly pale as he was supported by Yelina.
"I was the one getting shot, and you're the one who was nervous?" Picollo laughed weakly. "I'm fine, though. Don't worry. Only my shoulder seems to be dislocated."
"I'll get the medics right away!" Yelina exclaimed.
"No. We must proceed with the demo. It's not that painful, in any case." Picollo kept his dislocated arm still, not making it obvious.
He freed himself from Yelina's support, walking to the center of the stage.
"As you all saw, our collection doesn't just help you gain invisibility, but it also acts as armor against attacks. You can even survive a nuclear explosion, as it also resists all forms of radiation!"
Picollo's voice was loud and clear. The demonstration had truly caught the attention of the guests. Even those who weren't expecting much were pleasantly surprised.
Hearing Picollo's words, Leo's back slid down the wall until he was sitting on the ground.
"Not only did you add invisibility, but you also made it resist nuclear attacks?!" Leo exclaimed. "Such betrayal... Picollo! God will never forgive you for doing something like this to an innocent soul like me."
"That's not all! We have added more features!" Picollo exclaimed, his voice feeling like pins stabbing into Leo's ears.
"There's more? You evil man! Won't you stop until you bury me ten feet under? What else is there? Do these clothes also start to cook and work for you?"
"If you people were talented enough to come up with such a crazy thing and make it a reality within a few months, why the heck were you trying to teach fish how to walk?!"
"And finally," Picollo announced, tapping a small sensor near his collarbone with his good hand. "We understand that our clients value aesthetics just as much as safety."
"Whether it's a hero or a business tycoon, one must always look the part."
A ripple of energy seemed to spread over the suit. The fabric, which still had the scorch mark from the laser blast, began to shine.
Leo peeked through the crack in the door, one eye twitching. "Don't tell me... is it going to explode? Please tell me it's going to explode."
Instead of exploding, the scorched threads began to come together. Within seconds, the blast mark was gone. But the suit didn't stop there.
The invisibility deactivated, and everyone could clearly see the changes occurring in the clothes.
The tactical, tight-fitting design began to loosen and reshape. The dark grey color shifted into a deep black. Buttons started materializing from the nanomaterial, and a tie knitted itself into existence around Picollo's neck.
In less than ten seconds, Picollo went from looking like a special ops soldier to a gentleman ready for a high society gala.
"Self-repairing and shape changing smartwear," Picollo said with a bow, frowning slightly as his dislocated shoulder hurt when he bent forward.
"One suit for the battlefield, and the same suit for the banquet. No changing room required."
The silence in the hall broke instantly. It wasn't just polite applause this time. There was a loud uproar.
The representatives from the Herriet Bank were frantically typing on their holographic pads. The media moguls were already drafting headlines.
Even Blaze stood up, clapping slowly but with genuine appreciation.
"As expected of Leo Vanderlen! He always finds a way to surprise us! A true genius of this era..." Blaze mumbled, subconsciously giving credit for this invention to the owner of the company, Leo.
Outside, Leo face planted against the wall. Thud.
"It heals? It changes shape?" Leo's voice was filled with despair. "It has better healthcare than I do! Why? Why did you make it so good? I just wanted pants that people couldn't see! I just wanted a stupid gimmick, not this scientific revolution!"
He slid further down until he was lying flat on the floor, staring up at the ceiling.
"I'm ruined," Leo mumbled. "I'm going to be so successful. The tax department will be knocking on my door by tomorrow."
"The Lionel Family will probably try to assassinate me to steal the patent. I'll have to attend meetings. Meetings, Picollo! Do you know how boring those are?"
Inside the hall, Picollo wasn't done destroying Leo's peace of mind.
"Now, I know what you are thinking," Picollo said, his voice filled with the confidence of a man who knew he had won. "Such technology must cost a fortune. Surely, only the top 1% of the sector can afford this."
Leo perked up slightly, lifting his head off the floor. "Yes! Yes, Picollo! Tell them it costs a billion credits! Tell them it requires the blood of an extinct space whale to manufacture! Scare them away with the price!"
Picollo smiled warmly at the audience. "But Alpha Corp believes in accessibility. Our Boss, Mr. Leo, specifically instructed us, 'What is the point of innovation if it doesn't help the common man?'"
"I never said that!" Leo shouted into the empty corridor. "Or am I tripping?! No, I'm sure I never said that! Did he misunderstand something again?!"
