Chapter 571 -580: Completely Awake

As he spoke, he looked around in confusion. He soon recognized the place as the laboratory at their base, but why was he here?

Stella Sterling and Mr. Magnus watched this unfold, exchanging a glance.

Mr. Magnus called out tentatively, “Chief, is that you?”

Chief Ford looked over at him. “Who else would it be!”

Mr. Magnus was stunned once again. It looked like the Chief had come to his senses.

A look of delight flashed in his eyes, and he started to walk toward the Chief.

But then, Chief Ford’s expression suddenly twisted in pain. He clutched his head and cried out.

The red that had just faded from his eyes crept back in.

His earlier confusion vanished, replaced by a bloodlust as he charged at the two of them.

Mr. Magnus was horrified. “What’s happening? Wasn’t the Chief back to normal just now?”

He dodged out of the way while Stella Sterling watched from the side, her brow furrowed.

Seeing that Stella Sterling hadn’t moved, Chief Ford instantly switched his target to her.

But when he got close to Stella, he suddenly stopped again.

He stared at Stella Sterling. “Strange. Sterling, how did I suddenly get right next to you?”

Even Stella Sterling couldn’t help the corner of her mouth from twitching. Looking at the bewildered Chief Ford before her, she said, “My apologies!”

With that, she chopped him on the neck, knocking him unconscious.

Watching the man fall to the floor, Mr. Magnus walked over in confusion. “What’s going on with the Chief?”

It seemed like he had returned to normal, but then again, his behavior just now suggested otherwise. Still, this was different from the other times he had woken up.

Previously, whenever the Chief woke up, he was completely irrational. But just now, he seemed to be lucid one moment and crazed the next.

Mr. Magnus couldn’t make sense of the situation.

Stella Sterling was also silent. After a long moment, she said, “Could it be because he’s been mutated for too long? The virus has been in his system for a while, so this dose of the serum wasn’t enough?”

The injected fluid hadn’t neutralized the virus in his body quickly enough, which would explain what was happening.

Mr. Magnus thought for a moment and nodded. “Let me run a check on the Chief first!”

After a moment, he said, “The dosage in his system is insufficient. It’s fighting the virus!”

He then injected the rest of the green fluid into Chief Ford’s body.

Stella Sterling watched.

Chief Ford’s condition was due to the virus not being fully purged from his system, causing him to alternate between madness and lucidity.

In a situation like this, once the newly injected fluid was fully absorbed, Chief Ford should be able to return to normal.

An unknown amount of time passed before Chief Ford woke up again. He sat up, and when he saw Stella Sterling, a look of confusion crossed his face. “Sterling, why did you hit me?”

Before he passed out, all he could remember was this young woman knocking him out with a single chop. He couldn’t understand why she would do that.

‘I’m her elder, for crying out loud. Even if she doesn’t end up with my son, there’s no need to hit me.’

Chief Ford suddenly felt a little wronged. ‘My future daughter-in-law seems a bit fierce. She doesn’t have a violent streak, does she?’

‘After she’s with my son, she’s not going to start hitting her father-in-law, is she?’

At this thought, he secretly made up his mind. ‘From now on, I’ll let my daughter-in-law hit my son more. As long as she hits my son, she won’t have to hit me!’

Hearing his words, Stella Sterling knew he probably had no idea what had happened to him.

He didn’t remember trying to bite her at all; he only remembered that she had hit him.

Looking at his confused and slightly wronged expression, Stella Sterling couldn’t help but be reminded of Gordon Ford. Sometimes, Gordon Ford would look at her with that same expression. For a moment, she was lost in thought.

Just then, Mr. Magnus stepped in to explain on Stella Sterling’s behalf. “Chief, Sterling was helping you. Earlier…”

Then, Mr. Magnus explained to Chief Ford what had happened to him.

After finishing, he looked at Chief Ford cautiously. “Chief, you don’t remember anything that happened before?”

Hearing what Mr. Magnus said, Chief Ford finally began to recall some things. His expression shifted multiple times.

He finally remembered getting injured and then slowly losing his mind.

He had been irrational for so long that he had started to forget those events. It was only with Mr. Magnus’s reminder that he recalled them now.

He looked at Stella Sterling and Mr. Magnus with some embarrassment. “Sorry, I almost hurt you two.”

Then he looked at Mr. Magnus. “You’ve worked hard during this time.”

Hearing this, Mr. Magnus’s eyes instantly turned red.

So much had happened these past days, but his greatest fear was that the Chief would never truly come back. If the Chief had remained as that monstrosity, what would they have done?

The thought of having to eventually kill the Chief had been unbearable.

But thankfully, that was all in the past now. He shook his head. “It was nothing, Chief. As long as we could save you, everything we did was worth it.”

Then he pointed at Stella Sterling and said, “Besides, I wasn’t much help. This young lady was the one who worked hard. She’s the one who found a way to solve this!”

Chief Ford also turned to look at Stella Sterling, his eyes filled with joy and satisfaction. “Sterling, thank you!”

“You’re welcome.”

Stella Sterling nodded, then looked at him and asked, “Are you feeling any discomfort anywhere now?”

Mr. Magnus also watched him cautiously. “Chief, your mind should be completely clear now, right? You’re not going to suddenly try to bite someone again, are you?”

There was still a hint of worry in Mr. Magnus’s tone as he spoke. Although the Chief looked no different from a normal person now…

…the memory of his sudden rampage just moments ago left him shaken. He was afraid the Chief might be chatting with them one second and then suddenly go crazy and try to bite him the next.

He had wanted to go up and give the Chief a warm hug, but after seeing what had happened, he didn’t dare. He could only watch from a distance.

He wouldn’t be able to rest easy until he could confirm that the Chief was truly okay.

After listening to the two of them, Chief Ford shook his head. “Other than my whole body aching a bit, I don’t feel anything else unusual.”

“But why do I ache so much?”

Hearing his confused question, both Mr. Magnus and Stella Sterling guiltily averted their gazes. They knew better than anyone the reason for his soreness.

It was because Stella Sterling had to hit him to subdue him when he went berserk.
