Chapter 75: Chapter 75: Rift Reappears?
"We’ll meet again on March Star. Let me destroy their system first." Liu Zhijie’s heart bled at the thought, but he figured that if these subordinates of his died, the compensation would be a massive sum. Whether he sought compensation from March Star or the transport company, he wouldn’t suffer too great a loss.
His own subordinates immediately voiced their opposition the moment the fat boss finished speaking.
"Boss, that’s not a good idea. If we anger them, everyone in this cabin is doomed."
"Exactly! If they’re selling us, our lives aren’t in immediate danger. We need to find a way out. If we risk going up against these ruthless Pirates, what will happen to our families?"
"Boss, please don’t act rashly! If these Pirates are selling us, it’s probably to another Pirate Gang. For now, our lives aren’t in danger."
"Yeah, Boss. We’re the first batch of immigrants, and the planet receiving us must have gotten the news. A Warship will surely come to rescue us soon."
Yang Bo stood to the side, not panicking in the slightest. Instead, he felt an itch to give it a try. Was it time to test out all his Superpowers?
However, Yang Bo kept his mouth shut. He had the least seniority and the weakest strength here; it wasn’t his place to speak.
Hearing his subordinates’ words, the fat boss immediately flew into a rage. "Do you even hear yourselves? These Pirates managed to take control of the Baisha Transport Ship effortlessly! This was premeditated. It’s very likely those guys from Pado Star! Besides, don’t you know what kind of work we do? To keep things quiet, those high-ranking officials might just want us dead! We might be the very targets of these Pirates!"
Before anyone else could answer, the Pirate Leader on the large screen shouted, "You, the fat man from Anzhijie Company! You’d better not try anything funny. We know all about your background. It’s best you behave and drop any thoughts of escaping. We’ve stationed Space Fighters around the transport ship. None of you will get away!
"Furthermore, we know exactly where your family is, you damn fatty. If you ruin our plans, we won’t hesitate to pay them a visit!"
Hearing this, the fat boss knew they were being monitored. He yelled back, "In that case, how much money will it take for you to let us go? Name your price!"
"Fatty, this isn’t about money. This is about our reputation," the Pirate Leader refused. "I can tell you all one thing right now: the buyer isn’t going to hurt you. On the contrary, you’ll be treated to good food and drinks."
"Are you selling us to the Rebel Army?" the fat boss blurted out.
"That’s right! It’s the Rebel Army that’s buying you. You hit the jackpot this time. Otherwise, you would have become space trash long ago," the Pirate Leader said. "And everything you say and do is under our surveillance. Who can blame the brilliant design of this Baisha Transport Ship, with its highly intelligent system?
"Furthermore, we were able to silently take control of the Baisha Transport Ship. You didn’t actually think we could hack into its systems so easily, did you?
"Use your brains for a second. Since we are capable of pulling this off, do you really think anyone is coming to save you? Even if a Warship is dispatched, it’ll undoubtedly be sent in the wrong direction."
A heavy silence fell over the crowd. Yang Bo saw the grim expressions on everyone’s faces. The Pirate’s words had completely extinguished their will to resist. The only reason they had considered fighting back was the hope that a Warship would come to their rescue.
"This is shady. So fucking shady!" Yang Bo cursed inwardly.
"Son of a bitch, maybe some people from Pado Star were involved in the Red Earl attack. Otherwise, how could the Red Earl so easily take control of what is supposedly the most advanced entertainment city in the world?" Yang Bo thought of another possibility.
"Now, everyone step out of your rooms and let me see you," the Pirate Leader issued a new command. "If the number of people in any cabin doesn’t match the registered count, we will wipe out everyone in that cabin.
"Don’t think that just because there are over ten thousand of you, you stand a chance. In front of our Mechas, we could slaughter all of you in less than a minute.
"We don’t want to kill anyone this time. Don’t force us to throw you out into space, where you might be found among space debris hundreds or thousands of years from now.
"You all have families, lovers, and children. Honestly, going to the Rebel Army isn’t a bad deal. You can live perfectly good lives over there.
"There is also another option—join us! We currently need a few people. We’re looking for three to five entry-level Mecha Masters. The families of these three to five people can live with us."
The Pirate Leader’s words convinced Yang Bo that not fighting back was the best choice. The crucial factor was that the Baisha Transport Ship was under their control. If the enemy Warship opened fire, everything inside the cabin would be sucked out into the vacuum of space.
Superpower Users were still human, not cold machines. Space was freezing, filled with unknown dangers, and completely devoid of oxygen. Even though Superpower Users could briefly adapt to such environments, once their Energy Consumption reached its limit and their Energy was drained, they would be reduced to mere corpses.
"Very good. The people in this cabin are being very cooperative." A group of Pirate Leaders entered a cabin where the occupants were waiting submissively.
"This is a collar bomb designed to restrain Superpower Users. If a Superpower User exerts Energy beyond a certain threshold, the bomb will detonate." The Pirate Leaders pulled out collars one by one and fastened them around the necks of the people in the cabin.
Everyone’s faces were ashen, but no one dared to speak up. Standing in the open crowd, Yang Bo had no idea what to do either.
They watched helplessly as the Pirates strapped the collars onto each person’s neck.
Yang Bo acutely noticed that some children were spared from the collars, while the rest of the men and women were all forced to wear them. However, this was understandable.
These people were herded forward under the armed escort of the Pirates. Carrying their luggage, they were likely being transferred to a Warship.
Facing Mechas and Pirates clad in Energy Armor and wielding Energy Weapons, no one dared to resist. Everyone knew that the price of rebellion was being sliced to pieces.
In the age of technology, unless an individual’s power reached an abnormal level, it was utterly impossible to contend with technological advancements. People possessing such monstrous Superpowers were incredibly rare. If Superpower Users could easily crush technology, the world wouldn’t be as peaceful as it was today. It would have long been ruled by Superpower Users. The very fact that technology still reigned supreme explained everything.
"What do I do? What do I do?" Yang Bo was growing anxious. Looking at the expressions of the people around him, it seemed they had no intention of fighting back.
"Why isn’t anyone resisting? If these guys put up a fight, I could take advantage of the chaos," Yang Bo thought. He didn’t know how long it would be before they reached his cabin, but those collars definitely spelled trouble.
"Wow, everyone is extremely cooperative! Very good, very good." There was a sizable number of Pirates on board. One could see five or six Pirate squads, totaling around a hundred men, opening cabin after cabin and fitting collars onto the adults inside. Of course, there were Mechas standing guard menacingly nearby. The Pirate Leader was in a great mood, clapping his hands as he spoke.
Right at that moment, the large screen flickered. The next second, the footage changed. The massive Baisha Transport Ship suddenly moved, accelerating abruptly and crashing directly into the Warship alongside it!
Visible to the naked eye, the Warship was severely dented and crumpled inward by the colossal transport ship’s strike. The tremendous Power of the impact then sent the Warship flying. Since the Warship had been preparing to receive hostages, not only was it positioned too close to the transport ship, but its Energy Shield was also deactivated. One of the two patrolling Warplanes was struck by the tumbling transport ship and exploded into a fireball.
The transport ship was also heavily damaged. Robots were scrambling to rescue people. Then, dozens of escape pods shot out in all directions, and the Pirates’ remaining Warplane gave chase.
Suddenly, the screen flashed.
"Silver Moon Pirates, didn’t you bother to find out who pioneered March Star?" a voice echoed.
On the large screen, inside the transport ship’s main control room, a flash of icy blue light streaked across the footage. In an instant, the seven or eight Pirates inside the control room, all clad in Energy Armor, were sliced into countless bloody chunks.
"Rift!" Yang Bo exclaimed in shock.
